1969: (from 26th through 28th) Moderate snow occured over that time period above 6,000' in the mountains of C/E ID. Lolo Pass measured 3" on the ground and depths to 16" were reported on peaks near Mt. Borah.
1983: Water temperatures offshore AK are not tropical, but waterspouts can develop under the right conditions. A waterspout was indeed sighted over Hazen Bay on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta coast. Satelite noted large thunderstorms in the area.
1998: All-time record high temps were set at Dodge City, KS (110 Deg. F) and Amarillo, TX (108 Deg. F). By month's end, Amarillo set a June record of 13 days => 100 Deg. F. Talahassee had 12 such days (June record) and tying the 1931 annual record.
Before air conditioning, people would travel to the cooler mountains to escape the summers heat. Each spring in the Colorado High Plains, harmless miller moths drift westward into the cooler Rockies from their hatching grounds in eastern Colorado and Kansas. The 1991 migration was so heavy that mechanical equipment became clogged, radio stations were knocked off the air, and some public buildings were made unusable for several days. Three Colorado residents had to have surgical miller moth removal procedures done to their ears. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about that just doesn't sound right.
