Well, the goopy version changes the ending where the "surgery" does not take place and where the dream sequence is actually real... they cut all the denser, darker elements and pumped up what's-his-name to be a real hero instead of a guy caught between being his cog in the wheel and his inner fantasy life... it just became a weird story with a happy ending instead of a funny dark story without a happy ending...

Hoo boy. How ridiculous. I imagine Gilliam wasn't too happy with that.
"Brazil." The only movie with a come-on line about necrophilia--that actually isn't creepy.

No, he wasn't.
That's why the DVD collection is so interesting-- it shows how you can take raw footage and create two (or possibly many) movies from it. Which is what happened.

Pacino leaves me cold. DeNiro it is...

Slow news-month bump? :-)

Pacino's never done any work to equal "Taxi Driver."

Pacino's never done any work to equal "Taxi Driver." Hello - Serpico? ...And Justice For All? That's equal to Taxi Driver, IMO...
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
"Justice" was amazingly good, I agree

OK. "And Justice For All" was as much a tour de force (Pacino) as "Taxi Driver" (DeNiro).

I'm with you--the Raging Bull performance is classic.
