NEW YORK - Tom Cruise was all smiles talking about his movie and his fiancee on NBCs Today show, but the smile disappeared when Matt Lauer mentioned Cruises earlier criticism of Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants.
Cruise got very serious and kept saying Matt, Matt, Matt, Matt every time Lauer said he knew people who were helped by anti-depressants.
Shields took them for her post-partum depression. As a Scientologist, Cruise doesnt believe in those kinds of drugs or therapy of any kind.
At one point Cruise told Lauer, Youre glib and said Lauer didnt know what he was talking about. The star launched into a detailed discussion of the use of the prescription drug Ritalin.
It's very impressive to listen to you, Lauer replied, because clearly, you've done the homework. And you know the subject.
And you should, Cruise retorted. He also told Lauer, You dont know the history of psychiatry. I do.
The NBC anchor told Cruise he had known people who had been helped by psychiatric drugs. Cruise then accused Lauer of advocating the use of Ritalin.
Lauer asked Cruise how he could get more people to understand Scientology, the controversial religion practiced by Cruise and other celebrities like John Travolta.
You just communicate about it," Cruise said. If I want to know something, I go and find out. Because I don't talk about things that I don't understand.

What makes you think that?
I never watch Oprah and I haven't read Shields' book but I can certainly sympathize. I had a horrendous time after one of my pregnancies and that was just a "normal" bout of PPD. I can only imagine what a nightmare psychosis would be. I was not told by my ob/gyn or in prenatal classes that I might be at risk for a serious bout of depression so I was caught completely off guard. Over the last few years I have discussed ppd with many other moms--most of them were never told anything more than "You may experience some blue moods in the weeks following childbirth." There is too much potential danger, not to mention needless suffering, in not telling women ALL that they may experience.
"Plus to my knowledge, Cruise doesn't go around bashing Bush, the WOT, or the country that makes him rich."
I could be wrong, it's happened a time or two, but didn't Cruisingforboys once say that the United States "scares" him?
Well, actually, they are on to something. Demon possession.
Exactly.
Cruise wouldn't accept that argument from Lauer though. He says,
"There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance,"
-which is just stupid.
It's not a message, it's a strawman.
Hey, he's an arrogant idiot that attempts to brainwash people into his paranoid alien cult.
But other than that, he's a great guy!
Those schizophrenics should get off those dangerous medications! They just need a B-12 shot! And a few courses of Scientology! (/Cruise)
The top video is the best sex that Oprahs ever had!
One of the funniest comments I've ever read here.
I heard on the news today that Tom has a new Press Person. His old Press Person didn't want him to talk about Scientology (I wonder why!!!) and he fired her/waited until her contract was up - whatever. And then, hired his cousin or sister or something to handle his stuff.
This has been brewing for quite a while and he has felt stifled because he wasn't allowed to discuss his passion.
