I can tell you a terrible story now that everyone has gone home. I will be contacting my attorney tomorrow to write my son out of my will. I found out yesterday he had 4 comp tickets from the local Fox affiliate for todays race and he gave them to 2 of his employees plus beer money and gave them yesterday off to go down. I can't shoot him because he and his sister support me...

Here is a little factoid...

Local guy holds off Cup stars to win Southwest event at Sonoma The Associated Press SONOMA, Calif. - Local driver Tom Dyer held off four Nextel Cup regulars to win his first NASCAR Southwest Series event Saturday.

Dyer, of Corte Madera, Calif., outraced his car owner, Eric Holmes, to take the Blue Lizard Australian Suncream 200 by about five car lengths at Infineon Raceway, where he is an instructor at the Jim Russell Racing School. Dyer qualified seventh, but dropped to the rear of the 42-car field after a pace-lap pit stop to repair problems with his radio. He also weathered a last-minute scramble to put together a pit crew. "It was definitely a time when I just needed to remain calm and hope for the best," he said. Bryan Gerome, also competing in his first Southwest race, was third.

Kenny Shepherd and Chris Cook, also making their first starts, rounded out the top five. Nextel Cup drivers, at Infineon Raceway for Sunday's Dodge/Save Mart 350, struggled. Kyle Busch, who had dueled for the lead, finished ninth and Travis Kvapil wound up 12th. Boris Said crashed with Greg Pursley on the 14th lap. Dave Blaney retired 27 laps into the 64-lap race after his transmission failed. Fourteen of the 42 entrants were knocked out of the race by accidents or mechanical failure.

That was quite a feat for him, starting last and beating them! I see from the above excerpt that there were mechanical problems there as well, one including a transmission.

The trannies with problems were with the shifter rails but it was a miracle that the gears didn't explode by getting stuck in two gears. Was Jr having the same problem as the handsome ones... :o)

Didn't know if y'all had seen this article from USAToday:

SONOMA, Calif. — As Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s season continued to fall apart Sunday, the notion that he might not finish his career at Dale Earnhardt Inc., the team his late father founded, resurfaced.

Transmission problems contributed to Earnhardt's crash on the third lap of Sunday's Dodge/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway. After his crew repaired his car, he returned to the race and finished 42nd, 22 laps behind the leaders.

That leaves Earnhardt 18th in the Nextel Cup points standings, 543 points out of first place, with 10 races left before the cutoff for NASCAR's playoff-style Chase for the Nextel Cup. Earnhardt must be in the top 10 in points or be within 400 points of the leader after the Sept. 10 race in Richmond, Va., to qualify for the playoff.

Earnhardt seemed frustrated with his team for giving him an unreliable transmission. "We need to not make these mistakes," he said in a radio interview.

It was hardly the first sign of unrest at DEI this season. In a major shake-up, Earnhardt and teammate Michael Waltrip swapped cars and crewmembers in the offseason. After finishing third in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, Earnhardt went into a slump. His new crew chief, Pete Rondeau, was replaced by DEI executive Steve Hmiel before the May 29 race at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

DEI, founded by Earnhardt Sr. when he was driving for Richard Childress, is now run by Earnhardt's widow, Teresa. Earnhardt Jr. and his stepmother have had a rocky relationship. In an interview in Saturday's Orlando Sentinel, Earnhardt reiterated the notion that he might someday leave DEI.

Reached Saturday at the track, Earnhardt said he was simply restating his desire to drive for Childress "years and years" down the road. "Nothing's going on, I promise you that," he said.

Childress noted that Earnhardt was under contract to DEI through 2007. But should Earnhardt ever choose to leave DEI, Childress said, "He knows he's always got somewhere he can come and drive."

The old Biffer is a real racer and he's from the Pacific Northwest, too.

(Of course it doesn't hurt to be driving for Jack Roush with those Roush/Yates power plants, either.) ;)

When Biffle won the Dover race a couple weeks ago, he gave his trophy to a soldier who had been wounded in Iraq.

I was watching and heard Biffle say that ~ he's a class act without the baggage.

My favorite TV channel is Speed Channel.

Does your Ford pickup have a Roush engine under the hood?

BTW...one of the greatest drivers of all time was from near you. A young guy named Herschel McGrith...

Yes Jr lost first and second gear immediately after rolling off pit road at the beginning of the race.

Also,

"We tried a new transmission here and it hadn't give me troubles all weekend," Earnhardt Jr. said. "Right from the first corner...I couldn't get into second. Then it just tore it all out. ...The thing must have been made out of aluminum. It tore all to heck."

Oh well, our guys didn't pull through the performances they needed this week. Gordon looked good in the beginning but mechanical problems did him in (sounds like a broken record). And the only good thing for Earnhardt is he didn't finish last (mechanical problems also did him in).

I just hate it when equipment is the reason a driver fails to perform. There really should be no reason for this happening with DEI and HMS with all the money these organziations have to research and perfect their equipment. I can accept when Gordon or Earnhardt perform poorly due to driver error, wrecks, hard racing, ect. But it is a tad difficult to accept when week after week a lot of it is due to faulty equipment or bad set-up.(Okay my rant is over.)

On a more positive note, glad to see Earnhardt won the sexiest driver contest (though, I did vote for Gordon). He seemed a tad uncomfortable with the honor. (Maybe it was the trophy. Did you ever see anything more pitiful?)

I hope they can improve significantly in the next 10 races. It just won't be the same if they both aren't in the chase for the cup.

We (his fans) are taking up a collection to buy him a REAL trophy. After all we were the ones that voted around the clock. lol As far as him being uncomfortable, he hates that sort of thing. (Most popular, sexiest etc.) He gets embarassed. He would rather talk racing and at this point would RATHER have decent equipment to drive, I'm sure.

"I hope they can improve significantly in the next 10 races. It just won't be the same if they both aren't in the chase for the cup."

I agree, I read somewhere that the execs at NBC will be jumping off the ledge if both of them are not in the final 10 races for the Cup!!

HaPPy T'ars to You!

Chelsi Breckenridge, left, and boyfriend Shea Gallagher roll two of NASCAR driver Kevin Harvicks tires from the Infineon Raceway to their nearby campsite following the Dodge/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Nextel Cup in Sonoma, Calif., Sunday, June 26, 2005. The couple said they tried to buy Dale Earnhardt, Jr.s tires, but settled for those from their second favorite driver after being told Earnhardts were not available for sale. (AP Photo/Noah Berger)

I wonder if their campsite is at the top of that hill. lol

I've noticed at times Kevin's website has some really nice deals for his fans. Truck tires for $10 but ya gotta be fast!
