FOXWORTHY [Jonah Goldberg]
From a reader:
This morning, Newsweek editor Evan Thomas appeared on the Imus in the morning show. (Thomas called in from Martha's Vineyard--small eyeroll) Imus mentioned something about Jeff Foxworthy and asked Thomas, "do you know who he is?" Thomas' answer was an instantaneous "no". Imus followed up, "do you know who Larry the cable guy is?" An even more emphatic "no". Imus and cohort Charles McCord spent the next 30 seconds jeering Thomas, "How can you be the editor of Newsweek and be so out of touch?"
I think this illustrates quite nicely the media elite/red state divide. I'd be willing to bet that more red staters know Foxworthy's name than know their own US Senators. I'm not saying that knowing who Jeff Foxworthy is is either a good thing or a bad thing--I just think that an editor of Newsweek magazine would have to go out of his way not to know the name. What else about Red State America does Mr Thomas not have a clue about? It's time to send Newsweek's foreign correspondents down South!!!
I suspect that Thomas DID really know about Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy. It's like admitting that you watch television...Blue staters all do it, they just don't admit it.
OTOH, does anyone think that Foxworthy knows, or cares, who the heckEvan Thomas is? (g)
The water around the island is considered a mot and they think they live in castles also.
That's a riot. Coming from a lincoln sycophant at the NRO.
Don't leave out Tater Salad!
Still fighting the Civil War, are ya'?
He is hilarious.
Larry the Cable Guy is the guy whose grandma gets the walking farts. His little brother is a deaf mute who is real good with sign language, but he also has Tourret's Syndrome -- so he is always giving people the finger. Oh yeah, he also bought some of those flavored edible under britches for his girlfriend, but when he was taking them to her, he got hungry and ate them in the truck on the way over.
I don't care who you are -- that's funny.
LOL! Okay, now I'm informed. No Cape Cod for me this summer.
No, but I recognize trash and irony when I see it. For Jonah to call the editor of Newsweek on the carpet for his lack of knowledge on popular culture icons when he sees the South as nothing more than a voting base for his big government party and would dishonor our historical icons is disingenuous at least
Get the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
You WILL enjoy. =)
You Might Be A Redneck if you still find Foxworthy humorous.
The hell with that. Let dem yankee bastages stay where they're at and remain clueless. Besides, I think their stereotyping is kinda cute.
If you deny any knowledge of Jeff Foxworthy while calling Don Imus from Martha's Vineyard, you might be a liberal elitist.
Foxworthy's next album:
"You Might Be a Blue State, Elitist, Effete, Liberal Snob"
I find Ron White funny as hell.
Yup. The elitist libs will never make any headway in the south with the attitudes they have. I hope it stays that way.
BTW, I LOVE Blue Collar T.V.
