1939: a tornado killed 9 (including 4 occupants of a car thrown 1000') and injured 222 on a 25-mi path of destruction from near Corcoran to Anoka to Cedar, MN; debris found 70-mi downwind. Many witnesses said the Missiissip was briefly sucked dry in the vicinity of the tornado. Dude, figure out the cubic foot minute (CFM) flow of the Missippi, that water came down somewhere.

1975: An F4 tornado leveled a farmhouse near Arnold, NE. As an aside (and since some of you may miss the upcoming entry on this) 6 years later (24 Aug 81), the rebuilt home on the same site was destroyed by an F3 tornado.

Anyways, in the former storm, a pickup was tossed 200 yds (1 death). Pieces of the camper it was towing was found miles away.

1991: I wonder if there was a parade that day. Antofagsta, Chile (along the coastal Atacama Desert - one of the worlds driest) experienced 4 hours of rain. Mud slides swept homes and vehicles into the sea - at least 41 fatalities. Prior to 1986, Antofagsta hasn't seen a drop of rain.

Would you like an invitation to the newly formed Antelope Valley/High Desert ping list?

Looks like today is going to be sunny after all. Although, they seem expeciially confidant on that 82 Deg. F. for the foreseable future. I've never seen anything like that. One word sums that up: you live a charmed life. Not only that, but you've got that THI 77.8 going for you right now (that's like way cool compared to what you had going before). You might have to put some undies on right about now to ward off that chill, eh?

Perfectly beautiful day here in Chicagoland. We were downtown at the Feild Museum to see dinosaurs then walked along lake, then up and down Michigan Ave. Hot sun but cool winds from north, like early October still, perfect. No earthquakes, tornadoes, hail or flooding, but we did notice what looked like some kind of dinosaur coming out of Lake Michigan toward Millennium Park but it was just as we were getting back on the expressway so we could not see any longer to see what happened. I checked all the radio stations to see if there was any mention of a sea creature rising out of the Lake, but no mention yet. I will let you all know as soon as I hear - as to what they have decided it was.
