Good evening ladies and gentlemen!!!!!
Camping seems to be a huge favorite pass time with many of the member of our little group and I would like to give the afficiandos of it a chance to expund upon its merrit (and drawbacks)
Have at it folks - please do your dangedest to convince those of us with no interest why we should give up things like hot/cold running water, indoor plumbing, and electricity for a weekend or a week or longer without any or all of them.
If you find out what it is PLEASE let me know. I have a horrid, horrid time with reactions to any biting/stinging insects and seem to attract everyone of them wihtin a 100 mile radius.
That's me!!!!
I spent a fair amount of time in Ireland in the early 70's, traveling from Shannon south and east to Dublin and back again. Very serene...is it still like that in the countryside?
The last time we tried was when my wife and young daughter went with our neighbors to camp at Lake Travis in Austin, TX. The first day was fun, but if you Google for the 1981 Austin Memorial Day flood, you'll see how our weekend turned out. Had to bail out of the camp site late Saturday night... barely made it up to high ground. Haven't been camping since. :)
I've managed to camp a few times a year for the past forty...Just bring warm clothing to sleep in and you'll survive the rest...And for me personally, getting up early to watch the morning arrive is a big plus...you can nap in the afternoon to balance it out...Also, bring along a pack of large zip-lock bags for everything...Camping may not change your life but then again I've seen some places I'll never forget....
