THE BEST AND WORST OF THE 1980s (vanity)
Pissant/SSCPOW Research Center | 6/6/05 | SilentServiceCPOWife & Pissant

Posted on 06/06/2005 10:03:49 AM PDT by pissant

After receiving numerous complaints that the 1970s sucked and were not worthy of a vanity thread, here at the Pissant/CPOWife Research Center we've decided to select a decade that had more worthwhile activities to ponder. Though many positive events developed during the 1980s, there were plenty of stink-bombs as well. To further our research, we encourage everyone to participate in this scientific survey.

Without further ado, the Best and Worst of the 1980s:

Zod,

I feel we're kindred spirits. Night Flight, 120 Minutes, and if you wanna go WAY back, New Wave Theater with the late Peter Ivors.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik is one of my favorite bands, Flaunt It is a work of genius. Dress for Excess less so, I think. In fact, just after they reformed in the late 90s, I flew to London for a weekend just to see them play a gig at the London Astoria. Great show.

Speaking of Night Flight, do you remember that weird Japanese film they re-edited with their own dialogue. Something with a giant, evil frog villain named Lucky Pierre, a bunch of brides and an evil sorceress? They showed it on Night Flight at least twice a month.

Muslim Bumper Stickers

My other car is a bomb
This vehicle makes wide right turns into buildings
Keep honking, I'm rewiring
Visualize World Jihad
My other car is in the abdomens of 50 Israeli civilians!
I blew up 500 friendly Iraqis and all I got was this lousy bumper sticker.
0 to KABOOM in .2 seconds.
My 12-year-old can blow up your honor student
In case of Jihad this car will be exploded
What part of ULLULULULULULULU did you not understand?
Martyrs do it like it's their last time
My kid and YOUR money go to Gitomo Bay.
I'm Muslim but you're ugly and I can blow myself up
Baby Terrorist On Board
If you can read this, there's a car bomb in the trunk.
Fatah you looking at?
Honk if you Beat your Wife
Driver carries only $20 worth of C4

I loved her in Switch - where Jimmy Smits best friend came back as Ellen Barkin... she was BRILLIANT...acting like a neanderthal guy.

One of the least attractive women I have ever seen in a movie (not including women who are cast for the ugliness). Now maybe put her in leather and equip her with a whip....hhmmmm.

Wasn't that the earthquake series? That could also be listed as one of the worst things of the 80's, earthquakes (San Francisco/Oakland World Series blackout earthquake) and volcanoes (Mt. St. Helen). I am sure everyone remembers those.

I don't think either was really a major (social) issue until the '90's. Although that is when that trouble really started you're right.

Worst baseball uniform. (of all time) 1980's Houston Astros.

I think San Diego had some that came in a pretty close second. And those Pirates uniforms of the seventies were pretty dorky too. Those round hats with the flat top, black with yellow piping, that was odd.

Fashion was missing in the 70s and 80s.
And 60s, now that I think about it.

Golf

A golfer stood over his tee shot for what seemed an eternity. Looking up, looking down, measuring the distance, figuring the wind direction and speed. Driving his partner nuts.

Finally his exasperated partner says, "What's taking so long? Hit the blasted ball!"

The guy answers, "My wife is up there watching me from the clubhouse. I want to make this a perfect shot."
"Forget it, man, you'll never hit her from here!"

I don't think there will ever be any like them again.
