Isn't it scary how they took over CAN (Cult Awareness Network) and staffed it with all their own people, who would sing the praises of Scientology??

For real?! I just came across a CAN pamphlet in my files the other day. Who do we trust now and when did CAN cross over to the dark side?! TIA!

Yes, it most certainly is the truth. They sued CAN until they were bankrupt, and then took over the whole thing and put their people on the phones. They sued not because they were in the right, but because they simply had the money to fight a protracted battle, which CAN didn't.

When I originally posted about that, I was thinking there was something about it in the Reader's Digest article I linked to in this thread. I guess I saw it somewhere else, or either the article isn't comlplete. I have the the original Reader's Digest with my books that I can check. Maybe it was something on TV that I saw about it. For now, check this out:

4 November 1996 Important Notice Re: Cult Awareness Network To Whom it may concern: On October 23, 1996 the law firm which has represented the Church of Scientology for years purchased the logo and license agreement of the Cult Awareness Network (CAN). Accordingly, any publications or communications using the CAN name or logo after October 23rd (1996) should not be regarded as emanating from or having the approval of the Cult Awareness Network personnel or officers who were associated with CAN before 23 October. Sincerely, Herbert L. Rosedale, Esq. President AFF

A quick Google search will provide more sources.
