Did you ever wonder what happened to some of those one-hit wonders like Vanilla Ice, Tommy Tutone and Flock of Seagulls?
NBC did too, so they are bringing them back in "Hit Me Baby One More Time." What do they look like? What do they sound like?
We tracked down hitmakers from the past to take the stage to perform one more time and you can be the judge.
For three weeks, the former Top Ten artists will perform their trademark hit song along with one of today's current hits. At the end of the night, the live audience votes for their favorites! Watch "Hit Me Baby One More Time," Thursday nights at 9 on NBC 10.

I don't know that I'd call "In Your Eyes" a "pop" song... I'm not sure that anything PG's ever done really qualifies as "pop."
But it is an amazing song, and it seems to be even more popular today than when it was released... Damn! Is "So" nearly 20 years old? It was one of the first CDs I bought (back then, I listened to LPs!)

I got the idea from, of all things, a discussion of baseball with this guy-- whether a particular pitcher could go "seven [innings] on Wednesday (the day of the game)." I think it's neat because both words are interesting words and it's mysterious like a lot of band names are.
I think everyone has a band name they'd use if they formed a band. "Seven on Wednesday" just happens to be mine.
Great story. Phenomenal voicesmithing on that track. One of the all time greats for its kind. I can't even imagine it done any way but R&B, and by Carrack. Elvis Costello, huh? What an ear.
I can see how that could be inferred, but it was accidental. I was just stating my opinion on the song in the context of 80s popular music, which the thread was sort of about.

I think "Sledgehammer" and "Steam" and "Big Time" (along with "In Your Eyes") could make PG a pop artist.

FYI...Orion was a one-album effort by some notable people.
During the lengthy gestation period between Boston's 1978 release Don't Look Back and what would become that act's follow-up, 1986's Third Stage, guitarist Barry Goudreau formed Orion the Hunter. Joining Goudreau was singer Fran Cosmo (who had sung on a Goudreau solo album in 1980), bass player Bruce Smith, and ex-Heart drummer Michael DeRosier.
Originally called simply Orion, the name was tweaked under legal pressure from Orion Pictures. Signed to Sony, the quartet released its eponymous debut in the summer of 1984. Orion the Hunter also included contributions from Boston lead singer Brad Delp, who lent background vocals to the project as well as co-writing half the songs. With Boston still a staple artist at rock radio (and in the absence of new material from them), Orion the Hunter generated enough interest for the lead track, "So You Ran," to get airplay. "So You Ran" managed to make the Top Ten at rock radio and was a mid-chart hit on mainstream pop radio.
The band broke up following a stint on the road with Aerosmith and Goudreau, who had been in a protracted legal battle with Boston's Tom Scholz, who wouldn't appear on Boston's Third Stage when it finally arrived in 1986. Goudreau would resurface several years later, forming RTZ with Delp, who left Boston at the end of the '80s. Cosmo, ironically, replaced Delp as Boston's lead singer in 1994, appearing on Walk On. ~ Tom Demalon, All Music Guide
The Orion The Hunter record was recorded at the Power Station in NYC and engineered by Tony Bongiovi, who is Jon Bon Jovi's uncle. Jon was working at the time as the studios janitor. Working in the studio at the same time were Bruce Springsteen, Ozzy Osborne, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Nile Rodgers, and Hall and Oates.
What a way to be remembered.

yes--this is true... i actually get phone calls all the time from friends and family asking me, "what was that song?" "who sang that song?" "what song had a beat that goes like this?" it's funny... my husband still can't believe people actually call me for stuff like that... (not just music, but other pop junk.)
anyway--i'm the youngest of 7--with an 8-year age difference between me and child number 6, so i was exposed to music way before my own time... btw--i just thought of another obscure tune... do you remember "Peanut Butter" by Lenny White?

what about The Pet Shop Boys? and ABC? and Go West--"Call Me," was my favorite... i thought Go West must have had bad management because their music was good, but they didn't get that big...
I enjoyed Go West.
ABC and Pet Shop Boys were alright, but I was never a fan.
I was a fan of Yaz and owned "Upstairs At Eric's", Depeche Mode's "Catching Up With Depeche Mode", and "Speak and Spell"
Also enjoyed Romeo Void's, "Benefactor", and "Instincts."
Did you enjoy any of their music?
Yaz--how could i forget "Situation," or "Don't Go,"? i think i'll sample those now... and of course, Depeche Mode... but i wasn't into Romeovoid...

I heard it on Scrubs and went to his site and downloaded it right away. I have never gotten tired of hearing it. I checked his site recently and saw the link was gone and was thankful I'd already grabbed it! I'm glad you liked it.
Mark King is a phenomenal bass player.
