Sound Card - Need a fix

Hi, I can use some help. I just swapped out a Mother Board so as to have a new, fresh and operating Sound Card. Apparently the sound cards are now attached to the Mother Boards. (spare CPUs were available)

The Sound now works however the speed of the sound is too fast. Now the "Outlook email alert" sound and the Reboot sound appears to be normal but the Windows Media Player sound is too fast.

It sounds like the Chipmunks, Alvin, Simon and Theodore.

I have WINDOWS 2000, Pentium 4, some 2.9 MHz(or is it GHz), 512 RAM...

Any ideas as how to fix would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and effort.

Upgrade the sound driver. That's the first place to start. You can also try to upgrade the Motherboard firmware if that doesn't work. You may also want to disable the onboard sound through the bios if you are going to use a PCI card. Sometimes there may be a conflict with the drivers. You can do this in the BIOS. When the computer is just starting to boot, you'll want to either press the delete key or the F10 key (read your motherboard guide for this info).

Good advice. Disable the on board sound table via the BIOS and pop in a cheap PCI card and its drivers and see if it makes a difference.

At one time I had a conflict with a SoundBlaster card and and IDE PCI controller card and had to switch to the MB sound system. I switched back and the conflict was gone.

Thanks,

I appreciate the input. I'll give it a shot... however there will be limitations as this is my work computer and the Admin doesn't know much and doesn't care.... also he attempts to block the privilages one has on changing things in the computer.

But to keep my sanity I need some sound for music and video.

Again thanks.
