Heh... I was gonna tell her that the higher he moves up, he might end up in exempt positions where he has neither comp or overtime, just responsibility. I know it can be that way in the private sector, I don't know about the city.
Yeah, but with responsibility comes the tether of being available 24-7 with the cell phone and email @ home.
I imagine I'll be a lot more understanding when we get that big paycheck. But at 28K take home a year, I feel like they already get their pound of flesh. And if there were a chance for him to move up in the city, I'd look at it differently too...but there really isn't.
But now there's the paper. The city told him they'd pay him overtime for the paper (his thesis). It was a study they needed done. Then the grant fell through and he didn't get any overtime. But it's all good. I'm happy as a clam with how it worked out. Overtime would have been sweet, but the fact that they let him stay and work on it in the quiet of his office every single evening and on some weekends was compensation enough.
