The new version is directed by Tim Burton... I think it's probably more faithful to the book, which was rather dark. It was written by Roald Dahl, after all; when he wasn't writing children's stories, he was writing horror.

The problem as I see it is that most folks associate the story with the Wilder movie. A friendly, albeit disturbing, place with lessons to be learned.
This Burton version may be closer in the literary sense, but what's the target audience?
