What else do you know? What made the paramedics come get her? Did she pass out?
Does she have a history of heart problems, do you know? Is she taking Lanoxin? It's a heart med that strengthens each beat of the heart, but can slow the rate down. If she's taking too much, that can happen.
Some people just get into a slow rhythm like that and won't come out. It's pretty easy to fix...I imagine they'll try medications first and maybe put in a pacemaker.
What she has is called Bradycardia. There can be any number of causes...
Well, remember that I'm getting the story 2nd hand from my SIL, but this is what she told me...
Apparently, my ex-MIL (Rosa) was feeling pretty bad last night. It's no secret she's a big drinker and has been for years, so when she spent the whole night sick as a dog - she figured (as we all would) that she drank too much again.
Well, this morning she was feeling worse than ever and so she called 911. While she was waiting for them to show up, she called her daughter who stayed on the line with her until the ambulance got there.
The EMT told my SIL that they would evaluate her and decide whether or not she needed a hospital.
When my SIL called back 10 minutes later, there was no answer - so she called a few hospitals until she located her mom.
When she got to the hospital, the doctor informed her that her mom was being admitted immediately because her heart was failing. He told her about the heart rate and the last I heard, Rosa is awake and mad as hell that they've admitted her.
She still looks and feels terrible though, so she's scared to death she's going to die. She's a wonderful lady, evven though we've had our disagreements. I hope she recovers and gets home soon.
