The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yeah. Steve thinks it's an insane idea, but the gallon milk jug is cumbersome for the jedis and this little quart bottle is easier for them to manage on their own!

And right...I can put my milk goat milk in it someday too...and my kefir.

Next time I go to the Whole Foods store here I want to see if they have kefir. I'd like to try some. I love yogurt, so I imagine it'd be down my alley. ;-)

Or right up my alley, for that matter.

My brain is in low gear today.

Oh, they'll have it! Two brands, likely...one is called "Lifeway" and the other is called "Helios" or something like that.

You have a Whole Foods Market?? See if they still sell the milk in the milk bottles...where you bring the milk bottle back for an exchange...

Heh...I'm way too disorganized to do milk bottle trade-in. But I do think I've seen milk in glass bottles. Might not have been there, though. For one thing, there's a place back home that sells raw milk in bottles - cream, too. Or did, anyway.

I think I've seen Helios brand stuff. I'll check it out! If they have both brands, is one better than the other?

For toe-touchers, until you can do it standing, sit with knees bent and grab 'em, then straighten to the point of tension and hold +/-30 sec. Eventually you'll be able to get 'em all the way out.

Dunno if you know; when stretching, don't "bounce". Steady strain, no pain.

So I stepped it up to 90 mph, leaving the California idiot to take his pictures,

That would have been me! I would LOVE to see a tornado!

We started in Cheyenne, Wyoming and drove south to a little north of Denver and went west through the National Park. It cost $20 to get in - same with the Grand Canyon - and I thought I already owned them!

Down through Utah and into Nevada and on to California. We came back by way of Arizona, New Mexico and into Colorado and then Wyoming. I left Mrs. Graybeard there and continued on through Nebraska, Iowa and home to Illinois, where anything over 6 feet high is a mountain.

P.S. I am not mean, I left my wife in Wyoming because she's there on business.

I would LOVE to see a tornado!

Two years ago one came over the top of my house. It's very true what they say about it sounding like a freight train going over. It's awe and fear inspiring.

Right after that there was another one reported nearby, I decided to ignore the experts and got in my car and headed towards Steve's house. He has a basement and I don't.. I got about two miles down the road and visibility became very near zero. I pulled into a gas station and went in and joined the other customers in the inner office.

There were outward opening doors on both sides of the station and they were both flung wide open. My ears started popping and there was that tell tale roar again. It too passed over head. Just too much for this old mans nerves in one day.

The next day I surveyed the local damage, one ripped the entire second floor off an apartment complex about 5 miles east of me, (Morton, Illinois) three miles to the south it completely devasted homes in a small town. (South Pekin smaagee, you were in relatively safe Iraq at the time)

At the apartment complex there was an open farm field across across the road that was littered with stoves refrigerators, clothing and furniture but no loss of life. All the residents had gone to the lower floor. Again Steve, that's respect, not fear.

My advice is that if you want to see a tornado, watch the Discovery Channel.

Yeah - but the Discovery channel doesn't roar, and you can't feel it. I'm sure it's scary, but I'd find it utterly fascinating. Exhilarating!

I'd only be in tornado zone as a tourist, I'm afraid :~D

According to the Discovery Cbannel show that I watched, all 60 states have had tornados.

"All 60 states" was a typo.
