The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yes, but are ShoesOfPower mudproof? I think not. :)

It's a clever strategy....if there's only one ShoeOfPower no one's going to pick it up because no one....well almost no one....is going to wear one shoe. I suppose Long John Silver would pick it up....

It's a barrier, too...even if not a real physical barrier, a psychological one.

Our house is on the corner and people are all the time cutting around the end of our garage and across our front yard. I've been startled pretty badly a couple of times, going out to my car, by someone just walking through my yard.

I've thought of putting up one of those decorative barrier type fences...but nahhhh...I'd just soon put about 5 acres between me and anyone else.

I like all kinds. Privacy, chainlink, picket, barbed wire, electric, pipe, hog panel.

If I win the $100,000 backyard makeover from HGTV, I'm gonna have 'em put in a big-@$$ privacy fence betwixt us and the naybers.

With just enough room for drainage..

There are two shooooooess...what Lil' saw was probably just a pretender.

I can't get to ecurbh's photo gallery right now, but if I could I'd show you a picture of just how evil the shoes are...

Good morning!

Steve came in last night around 9:30pm. We made it a whopping 10 minutes before he got mad at me.

I had to quit nagging him (even jokingly) about his paper...he, um...didn't care for it. But in return for stopping the nagging, he has kept me more up to date on what is happening with it. Second draft goes in this week.

So last night he came in and I told him about Puffy laying, but that if she doesn't lay well, I'd still just soon process her. He said "We have to get some more chickens...these are all gonna stop laying!" I said "Well, I don't want to get any more chickens till we have more room and there's only one way we're ever gonna get more room."

D'OH!! I shouldn'tah said THAT!

Finished cleaning the kitchen and then went and sat down and told him "You know how you enjoy these fresh eggs? Well, I don't mean to harrass you, but if you think these fresh eggs are good, you just have no idea what else I have planned! Think "homegrown steak and eggs" for breakfast! I don't want this land for just myself! I want it for you and the boys!"

The thought of steak and eggs cheered him up.

This is gonna be one stressful summer...

You know my neighbors that had the open septic and the golden retriever I rescued? I put up the fence when they got that new dog?

They moved. A couple moved in and just totally renovated that house! Landscaped the yard and everything. It looks great, PTL!

From what I understand, the people that lived there before had connected to the city sewer when their septic failed...but they only connected the toilet. The tub and sink and everything else was just draining under the house. The people who bought the house from them had to fix that. Can you imagine?

My washer does that. Someone routed it to the basment floor drain (just goes out the bottom into the ground). It makes a 6 foot puddle down there every time I run it. Got a plumber coming tomorrow to tell me what it will cost to fix it.

Well, that's a good point...We run our washer out into the back yard so our septic doesn't have to deal with that much water.....it waters the grass!

But to me, this is just a pier and beam house...you know? It was just running out under the house! Doesn't seem like a good idea, because it's in the dark!

I'd just soon run our water out into the yard...everything but the toilet and maybe the dishwasher/kitchen sink stuff that deals with food particles.

Our bath water is still fairly useable water, as is when we wash our hands in the restroom and the like.

Would be nice to water the garden with it and such.

Got thenuggets out of the tote on the porch and into their tractor under the shade tree. They're HUGH! Looks like someone's inflating them.
