The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Great morning mooters! ~waves~More pics more pics! What's on the agenda for today?
To: HairOfTheDog
Good, I'm glad you're up.
Sam's got a hitch in his giddy-up...so to speak. He's been limping and whining. Seems to be in his back hip.
This morning he stood at the top of the stairs and cried for 5 minutes before he'd actually come down (and that was with us calling him).
I know joint problems are common for big dogs, and he's probably a good 20 or more pounds than he should be.
Does he need to see the vet? Or are their over the counter things we can do to help him?

Has he ever had Rimadyl? If he's been given it before, they may give it to you again without a visit. Rimadyl is a general anti-inflammatory. If it gets better on Rimadyl, it's soft tissue or arthritis. If it's arthritis, of course you'll have to continue treating it at least off and on, with probably increasing frequency. If it doesn't get better on that, you'd want to know if he actually has structural hip issues, like displasia.
To: HairOfTheDog
No, he's not been on Rimadyl. He had the "puppy growning pains" when he was a few months old and we gave him baby aspirin.
Thinking about it, I think he's due for some shots anyway. Prolly best just to take him on in.
I just hate it 'cause they always fuss about me about his weight.

~Waves at porch mooters and Talon!~
Talon, I've never seen pictures of you, good to see you! You look like a friend of mine from college. I think I'll call you Steve from now on!
To: Corin Stormhands
I know... I hate taking Pudget, er... Gidget in too for that reason. It seems a failure of good animal husbandry to have let them get too fat...
Will power for me is one thing... but you'd think I'd have enough will power to keep the dog on a diet.
To: HairOfTheDog
It's worse with Sam becoming such a house dog. Nana likes him in side, and I don't blame her. He's security for her.
But he fools us into thinking no one has fed him all day long. So he probably gets about 2-3 times what he should.
Jr. walks him once or twice a day. But, then again, I've been swimming every day too and I haven't lost any...

But he fools us into thinking no one has fed him all day long. Gidget begs for extra meals too. And she's dang insistant! ecurbh taught her to bring the dog bowl when she's hungry. Now she does that, drops the bowl on you, and proceeds to bark at you until you feed her.
