*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

She was an old school horse. The basic of basic lessons:') I have no idea how she was even able to walk that far.

My poor muddy tractor.
It's about 20 years old and has over 700 hours.

You can see how I bent the side, trying to get away from the tree.

That's ok, it gives it character.

They are having a benefit horse show tomorrow, for the people who had the barn fire last month. Here is a web site, if you all would like to read up on it. The community has really come out in support, for these people. Silent auction, stud fee donations etc.

Thanks! Never did ride an australian stock saddle because of what owners said about them. It is a good looking saddle though.

Ouch! It is a compact tractor. Just the right size for what you need it for. Glad that the tractor has more dents than you though. : )

The thread makes me want to cry but smile too. Do they know what caused the fire?

Our adventure today in the woods!

Bruce and I headed out this afternoon for a nice drive through the forest... wanted to scout out some other possible places where we might trailer to with the horses... since some of these roads are pretty rough... we wanted to scout it out first ~without~ the horse trailer.

We got on a road that went very high!

"Honey.... can you get out and check the right front tire, it doesn't feel right."

OK - do we have a spare tire?

Yes!

Getting the tire changed was a bit of a trial. First, our jack would not raise the truck high enough to even get the old wheel off... but we did the best we could by stacking the jack precariously on some rocks.

A super friendly bicyclist came and helped us with ideas... and to find some rocks, as well as just made us feel better that we were not completely alone in the world. I didn't take his picture at the time he was helping, because I didn't want him to think I was really weird. Even with the jack raised on the rocks, we still had to dig out the road bed to get the tire on the truck.

When we were finishing up getting the tire on, the bicycle guy left... and went on down the hill... His car was parked on the same road, we'd passed it on the way in.

When we got down to him, we were all smiles, and he said "Guess what? I have a flat tire too!" I had to laugh. So we got to help him switch his tire out too. This time I said... I have to get a picture of this!

Both our spares were a little soft, but they worked... and I know we felt better having this friend in the woods, someone in the rear-view mirror. We tag-teamed all the way to the nearest gas station, which was a fair distance, where we could get some air.

So thanks for the help Mr. Bicycle Man! Hope you made it home without further adventures!

Yeah - I don't think we'll be able to save the tire... maybe not even the rim ;~\

You could make a horse swing out of it for the little ones that visit or a lawn ornament.

It looks like it was a bald tire that blew. Wowsers, did you hear it go?

You know... they weren't all that bald, but they aren't off road tires either. Some of those roads are just sharp rip rap.... anyway, we found more places today that we shouldn't try to get the horse trailer in to ;~D
