This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well maybe yall will just get needed rain.
"If there is a next time ask who is on call for him. Someone has to be seeing his patients."
Well, crap. Why didn't I think of that? duhhhhhh
Hey, you want to hear something cool? I got paid twice today. Seems my company changed check writers and they both paid out. I was told not to get to happy about it though caz they were going to withdraw it back. I signed somewhere giving them permission. If I had only have known though....:
My advice on a 14yr old girl would be don't let her go unchaperoned to any race tracks until she's 34 :) or maybe 44.
aww c'mon, I'm a newbie. Cut me some slack. :)
I too only had boys. My little grand daughter a learning experience. She's precious but I can't see in the , say next 50 years letting her go anywhere unchaperoned:')
Good morning...
[not really Becky]
She wants to try it on a horse that's had a rider three times, also on trail. Last time she only had a halter and lead rope on her and wants more control.
My friend is one of those remarkable people who is beautiful, strong, brave, and has not one ounce of common sense. She's my 'whoop and go' friend we went on the trail ride with before that was so hard.
The thing is, I tell her this isn't the way to do things, that she isn't really training by having that filly follow along, that she really should back off and do some arena work before she gets hurt, and she says "you know me, I hate arena work". The thing is, she almost always gets away with every crazy thing she tries. She's crazy and charmed ;~D
This is Tiff on her nice ole Arab mare, on the trail ride last year.
I just hope if she kills that filly in a wreck somewhere, she pulls ecurbh's bridle off and brings it back. We need it ;~D
Honestly, I hope life always works for her and she never gets hurt, and that I never try to think I can live the same way and get away with it '~D
I wish that I had a horse again so that I could invest in an Australian stock saddle for trail and a decent dressage saddle for the ring. I've never tried a stock saddle, but would like to because they look very comfortable. I use an all purpose when I ride, and I've never been a big fan of them.
WARNING
Two graphic horse mouth pictures coming. Yuck. Can you brush a horses teeth? Anyway, will yall look at this tooth that has turned sideways and tell me what you think?
I wouldn't do anything the way she does it. ;~D
She's pedal to the metal in everything she does. She's great.... from a spectator's vantage point. I couldn't live with her, and few men can for long ;~D
Heh, that's not half as bad as the pictures on the "Meth mouth" thread that I was on earlier. (Morbid fasicination) Does the tooth seem to be bothering her at all?
Very unusual indeed...
You don't need to brush them... But they usually do need their teeth filed down on an increasing basis as they age... maybe every year as they get older. Bay has his done once a year, Cyn hasn't had hers done yet, and pony had hers done once since I've had her but hasn't needed it again yet.
Normally, the teeth continue to grow their whole lives, and if they had a perfect bite, they'd wear evenly, but they don't have a perfect bite, as you can see there ;~D
It usually isn't the front ones that cause painful problems, it's the back molars that you can barely see or feel to check out. Your vet can, and can tell you if and when to file that one. It doesn't look sharp edged... the back molars can develop really sharp points that scratch and scar up the inside of their cheek.
It wasn't like this when I got her and I first noticed it about 2 months ago. I've been watching it and was going to get it checked when Okie got floated next month. It seems to be turning a lot more though. She just chews, I don't know how to describe what I see but "different".
If she's chewing differently then it could be bothering her. I'd get it checked out. Your horse dentist or vet, whoever you get to float their teeth, can give you a better idea what's going on. Does she let you touch it, or is she acting like it's hurting her? Has she been dropping food or drooling, or reacting differently to being bridled and ridden?
