This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Conchav also has quite the sense of humor. I had a cat that wasn't feeling good and had terrible bad breath. I called Conchav and told her about the cat's breath and she told me to "give him a tic tac!" After we got finished laughing, I made an appointment to get the cat in and he had a sticker stuck under his tongue and it was rotting the flesh in there. Yuck. They fixed him up and he's right as rain and mean as ever.
Are you working? What's the wife gonna do all day in Denver?
By storm, I'm talking about hurricane winds that can take roofs off and collapse barns. If you can evacuate it's best but would a barn or pasture be better? How strong a wind can your barn take, Tuffy?
I hope you enjoy the forum!
Welcome Conchav
Shop, goof off and lunch. What a wonderful thought. :')
Cowtown is our troll but we treat him as well as we can.
It couldn't take a hurricane, that's for sure. My husband did hit one of the poles with a tractor the other day, a big John Deere tractor that I move round bales with, and it didn't budge anything. After I got finished screaming at him I looked at the pole and it didn't even dent it so I think it's sturdier than I give it credit for.
Yeah, we are going to build as safe as we can. I have never lived anywhere else so know nothing else. Earthquakes and rumbling mountains would scare me:') Seriously, I've talked with several people about this and there are pros and cons to both sides. Some give them their head to find natural shelters. There is a risk that something can hit them though.
Got to go folks. Talk to yall at lunch.
That is correct. At least, they used to do that. A ruling was made to stop the practice. Also, bleeding and starving to make them go so slow. Terrible what people will do, for a ribbon.
Down where cindydawg lives is flat ranching country (think King Ranch) and nobody puts large animals up for hurricanes. If you have an expensive horse you probably would want to evacuate him but horses and cattle are probably safer outside. Barn comes down around them or floods out the animals don't have a chance. Out in the open at least they have a fighting chance.
You too huh? Terribly hot here too. What is with this algae or something I heard about on the East coast? Is it caused by the hot temps?
I just can't imagine. So my advice is irrelevent. :~\
No no no, no one's advice is irrelevent.
I put my horses up anytime a storm threatens because of hail and lightning. I don't worry about tornadoes, big damaging ones are rare here, and there's no chance my barn will flood out.
