If I am not mistaken, you go to "start," then Help and Support. From there, you are at the Dell Support page and you must click on the subject (forget the name) to see a detailed report of all of the info about drivers, etc. that are on your system.

Try looking under Device Manager - right-click My Computer and choose "Manage" from the menu that appears. On the left side of the new window, click "Device Manager" and on the bottom right will be the USB root hub. Check in there.

Pretty much any newish laptop will be sporting USB 2.0.

YMMV, however.

Look on the bottom of the machine for a sticker with the service tag number on it. Go to this page:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/en/product_support_hub?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

and punch in the service tag. Voila, the complete specs for your machine.

If it's less than 4 years old, the odds are extremely high it is USB version 2. Version 1 is on older computers.

Plug in a device you know is 2.0, you will get a message if it is plugged into an older USB.

Plug in a thumb drive and copy a large file onto the drive. If it estimates a half-hour, it's ver. 1.1

Download and run Belarc Advisor. It should give you a detailed accounting of your system and software apps.

Looks like your question was already answered...
I am a big fan of belarc advisor (just google 'belarc')
it is a little file that you can put on a disk and will give you LOTS of useful info on your system such as how many open ram slots and what type of RAM, HDD serial #, ect.
I always bring a disk with this program on it and run it on a friend's computer before troubleshooting/upgrading.
Hope this helps!

Google is your friend:

"How do I determine what version of USB I'm using?"

Then click on the first link.

This program should help you answer your question http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1〈=en

You should find what you need under devices then windows devices.

For some reason the url is changing when I click on preview. Where it says pid=, instead of what's there it should be "1 & lang" but without the quotes and spaces.
