I used to wonder if he, Arthur Miller and Saul Bellow would all make it to 90. He alone made it. Budd Schulberg is almost there. Sidney Sheldon and Mickey Spillane are still alive so I guess writing pulp makes you live longer.

Pulp fiction as a genre has an undeserved bad name, those first publishers were our earliest conservationists in the true and streetworn sense.

Somehow the quality of the paper on which the words were printed came to be representative of the worth of the words themselves.

Few truly read to learn, most read to enjoy or to escape the pithy core of their humduggery.
