"Revenge of the Sith" Is Sweet at Box Office

Holy Sith! Darth did some damage at the box office this weekend.

Star Wars: Episode III--Revenge of the Sith earned a Yoda-riffic $108.4 million from Friday to Sunday, according to final studio figures released Monday.

The boffo numbers didn't quite make for a new opening-weekend record--with a caveat. Spider Man is still the champ thanks to $114.8 million the comic flick swung in with in 2002, and Sith now owns the second-best three-day weekend of all time, edging out Shrek 2's $108 million last year.

But with its record-smashing debut midnight Wednesday, the final Star Wars prequel did score the best three-day debut ever, with $124.1 million from Thursday through Saturday, topping Spider-Man by almost $10 million. (Spidey's money came from a more traditional first three days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday.)

Sith also set the standard for single-day total, with its $50 million opening-day haul beating Shrek 2's previous mark of $44.8 million. The film, which reportedly cost about $110 million, has now grossed $158.4 million, a new best for a four-day opening--beating out Matrix: Reloaded's $134.3 million--and enough to beat any previous five-day tally.

If it's as good as Episode II, I will keep my money in my pocket.

Seen it twice already. He saved the best for last, think I even like it better than Empire. Even non Star Wars freaks will enjoy it, I think it'll continue to be strong at the BO from repeat viewings and good word of mouth.

If they killed Jar Jar, they could probably get the fan boys to come watch 2 or 3 more times then they would have otherwise.
