Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

Practiced all winter in all kinds of weather so you could make the team the next year. And you usually rode the lumber most of that year.

God, how did we ever survive that trauma!

I would add to the original post,

I remember when we spent entire road trips playing in the back of the station wagon.

I remember when you could go fishing or hunting on your own land without a license!

I remember when policemen used to walk through neighborhoods and were friends with everyone, including the kids.... now they spend their entire day sitting in their cars hiding behind signs trying to catch speeders...

I remember when you actually LEARNED stuff in school, besides that killing animals is bad, homosexuals are good, and by the way... here's a condom!

I remember actually getting GRADES on my report card!

I remember when every truck you saw had a gun rack in the back window.

I remember when girls acted like girls.
