When I was about 4 years old, I acquired a little hand saw. I sawed wood, lots of it. There was a wooden table in the family room, and all around the edge of it were saw cuts, about an inch or two deep.

I got my first pocketknife when I was eleven. I carried it to school. I still carry a pocketknife--two, on some days.

LOL!! I was kinda the same way, though perhaps not to that extent. I had always been fascinated by anything that flies, and so I had lots of toy airplanes and such. I went on to get my pilot's license in the late 80's, and to this day I can't pass up a program on the History Channel or Discovery about airplanes.

Well the boomer R's have the Senate, the House, and the Presidency. And what do they do with it? Free Drugs for Boomers, Easy Housing Money for Illegals, Free Drugs for Africa, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure X/Y would be equally rapacious looters (especially considering their upbringing). It just so happens the Boomers have literally voted themselves more entitlements than ***all privately held wealth in America***. So the situation should come to a head in the next decade or so.

If you listen to any conservative radio, read conservative publications or even watch a rare conservative television commentary, you must know that outside of Washington, 99% of conservatives are against all these entitlements. Don't blame me for their actions. The Democrats have long been creating these entitlement programs for decades. I suggest you do like the rest of the workers out in the real world and save your money. I think you underestimate the scope of the problem. Dollars will not be a safe store of value in a bankrupt kleptocracy. Nor will stocks in a market corrupted by false government incentives for malinvestement. The intergenerational pranging thats coming will result in an aggregate reduction in economic activity which will be to nobody's benefit.

Two words, real estate. Albeit, maybe not a good time to get into the market in some areas. I've done well in this area and should be fine with a rather debt free situation (working hard will do that). Plus some other liquid assets and property. I'll be fine and hope you will be too. Lovce that movie by the way, and growing up in the 50's I still wax nostalgic when I watch Andy or Leave It To Beaver. Was such a good time to live when we didn't have a bunch of anal retentive clods telling us how to live our lives, our childrens' lives or our grandkids lives.
