Bankrupt the Abortion Industry, Planned Parenthood, etc.
Self

Posted on 05/14/2005 7:46:56 PM PDT by salbam

News that abortion nearly doubles the risk of subsequent children being born prematurely gives an ironic oppurtunity to the pro-life forces in the country. CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! The same devastating weapon the has crippled tobacco, asbestos, silicone breast implants, etc. can now be directed at all abortion providers around the country and bankrupt them. Run the ad "Have you had an abortion and subsequently had a child be born prematurely? If so, you may be entitled to a cash settlement - call the law offices of.......". The beauty of this is it pits two democratic forces - trial lawyers and pro-abortion zealots on opposite sides. Please, some enterprising conservative attorney start running these ads and taking on (and taking down) the multibillion dollar abortion industry!

bttt; as an added side bonus, it would even create an awareness of the destructive power of lawsuits on the left!

Clever, but the ladies that get abortions sign a waiver stating all risks .

Ask any doctor how much the informed consent protects him from a malpractice suit.

I think your idea has some merit notwithstanding the waiver business.

There are a number of similar 'medical' issues out there that I'm casually watching with interest to see what becomes of them. One of the more interesting is the number of perfectly healthy prostrates that likely have been removed over the years. For many, there has been absolutely no reason for doing so except some doctor got carried away with no more information other than some PSA numbers he/she reckoned had gotten a little high. John Kerry is a pretty typical example - PSA numbers go up a little and doc recommends getting prostrate removed. Patent ends up suffering consequences for rest of his life. I wonder how many people are aware that Dr Stamey, the doctor who published the original paper in 1987 that said that PSA was a good indicator for the presence of cancer has since refuted his own study and basically has said that PSA is worthless as a screening tool. It's the problem of turning everything into a cookie cutter approach instead of using common sense.

Sorry to get so off-topic.

Is this just for surgical abortion, or RU-486 too?

Most are now terminated chemically.

Good idea, except you probably can't get a trial lawyer to take the case. The relationship is a two way street, and the trial lawyers know who to go after and who to leave be.

But go ahead and try. I wonder if it will work better than the idea to attack abortion if we can genetically test for gayness.

I forgot to add:

If you want to bankrupt the abortion industry:

Spend a lot of money on a nationwide effort to convince people that killing unborn children is wrong. To get around the MSM blocking your commercials, spend money running candidates in federal, state, and local primaries (both parties) with the sole purpose of putting ads on the aid showing sonograms of 10-week-old babies, pictures of fetuses, and filmed abortion procedures. Remember, you aren't trying to win the election, and if you sicken people and get them mad about what their children watched on TV, any thing that makes anybody mad is good for the cause.

Once you have convinced the world that the unborn is a human being, you will have acheived the goal some democrats are talking about, wiping out 95% of all abortions.

Meanwhile, the stigma you have placed on the other 5% pretty much ensures that abortion will be like smoking, legal but unaccepted.

It's time we took the direct approach. I'm not saying we have to stop trying to elect the right people. But realise that the BEST you will get out of the Supreme Court would be a vacating of Roe-v-Wade. You won't get them to turn around and ban abortion. You will just get the chance to convince 50 states to make laws. And to win there you will have had to convince the people that abortion is wrong anyway.

So what you are saying is, avoid lawyers who have principles against attacking their own side just to make a buck for themselves. How hard could that be?

Not here in Michigan they don't. An abortionist will go to great lengths, in fact, to avoid answering any medical questions which a woman about to have an abortion may have.

Not a bad strategy. Especially if applied in races where there is no chance of a Republican, much less a conservative, winning. That would naturally be Blue States or Blue cities. Just where the education is needed most.
