In other words, enough food to give something like 25,000 people a sustaining meal is a normal American's 4 days' wages. Sorry, Malthus.

I assume they were dried.

The markup on those things is immense - one pound of dried peas is about $.29c I think.

A shipping container filled with them is probably something like 12,000 pounds of peas. That's like a 100x + markup.
