Child Internet Protection Act - Pink Filters (Freep Help)

To any Freepers out there in the school communities:

I have been told the Child Interent Protection Act has provisions in it that require schools, at some point, to install Internet filters that block a certain threshold of the color pink. Is this true? If so, does anyone know where I can find that specific information.

The 'pink' filter is an old myth that came out to make people scared of this act.. just like a lot of myths around the Patriot Act.. I remember when this e-mail went out a few years ago.. I bet it is snopes..

If your school system receives federal funding then there is a requirement to install filtering software. I work for a school system and we had to. We happen to use CyberPatrol. The conventional wisdom is that filtering software is basically worthless. If you configure it properly and keep it updated we have found it to be effective in the elementary schools, where it the most important.

So do you know if there is a requirement for the filters to block a certain threshold of pink. I was told that the law required that a system to block pink be developed. Is this true?

The intent being to block out porn sites?
Doubtful. The obvious workaround would be to put up websites that couldn't be blocked by such a measure. Such as featuring African-American models. Just sayin'.
