Whenever I see a movie that's interesting, I check FR to see if there was a discussion about it. So I'm starting this thread about the movie "CRASH." I just got back from seeing it and it was very, very interesting. It was set in LA and it examined race, prejudice, stereotypes...from every angle. It was very non-judgemental and there's no good guy/bad guy thing going on. If and when you see it, I'd like to know what you think. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year.
It looks good I'm hoping to see it soon.
Definitely go see it.
Ebert really liked it, which can make me wary since he's so uber left.
Al Sharpton is gushing about it and says he's seen it 4 times, so I'm already leaning no.
Michael Medved LOVED it.....
aren't we supposed to hate this movie because we heard that Million Dollar Baby was something we'd hate?
It got a good review in my local paper. I'd definitely rather see this one than the anti-Christian Kingdom of Heaven.
Medved loved it? I believe it...I thought it would lean left also, but it didn't. It's just about human beings, the good and the bad in them and maybe some of the reasons we are where we are at in race relations.
But even Ebert (on "Ebert & Roeper") admitted that the movie questions some liberal ideals about race-relations. Is that accurate, Hildy? I haven't seen it.
That's an attitude that guarantees you'll miss out occasionally.
Yes, actually, it does. There are no answers, it just puts things in your face. It's probably the most real depiction I've seen.
That one scene peaked my interest. She's quite an actress.
There is no star in this movie...she actually has a very small, but very memorable, part.
But its also an attitude that guarantees that I'll be better off most of the time.
Odds, and probabilities, and percentages.
Richard Roeper said in that scene Bullock showed more acting ability than in both "Miss Congeniality" movies combined, LOL.
Oy vay, just walked out of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe." Wanted to remind myself why I still go to movies, so I bumped this thread.
My wife's book club loved this film....which considering the wives who loved it....gave me fear about it.
I feared it would be PC and a wee bit tried to creep thru on a couple of occasions but was offset by non-PC candor as well.
Excellently acted....everyone...especially Cheadle and Dillon and Bullock....and yes...even Ludacris(?) can act, though his character was the most implausible (racist car jacker with a soft heart).
All characters had high and low points....
The ensemble weaving was believable even if highly unlikely.
That Cheadle fellow was involved in the production as well. He gets involved in interesting work. I need to keep up with him.
I was surprised....pleasantly.
Now if I could have said the same about Kingdom of Heaven....shoulda been Kingdom of Allah.
with such small kids we mostly rent so sorry to post quite late
Thandie was delicious as usual even though that scene was very painful.
Is it on DVD?
I note this thread is from May.
