Word For The Day, May 5, 2005, Thursday
Argh | 05-05-05 | Slip 18

Thursday, May 5, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

THAUMATURGE

Noun
Pronunciation: Thaw/my/turd . Oh, excuse me. Thaw/my/turj.
Etymology: [Greek thaumatourgos : thauma, thaumat-, wonder + ergon, work; see werg- in Indo-European Roots.]

1) A performer of miracles or magic feats.

Thank you, Arghie!!!

i know we frequently discuss public schools, homeschooling and private school in here, but THIS is precisely what is wrong with public schools in the DC area. other parts of the country have public schools that are not so very different than the one that i attended growing up. But i could never send my kids to public school down here.

Fried, VERY lightly floured, with lemon. And with cold garlic mashed potatoes. You might also find them useful when the batteries deplete, as apparently happens so often to you.

Yeah - it is weird seeing a "removed by moderator" post on WFTD.

How are you?

I'm hanging in there. I had a rough couple of weeks, but with MUCH thanks to the pragmatism of my dear FRiend XS, I made it through. She gave me a much needed talking to when I started feeling sorry for myself after an outbreak of lice in school landed in my daughter's head and she was home from school for the better part of 2 weeks.

I also got a much needed wake up call when through tear blurred eyes I took the scissors to her "able to sit on" length hair....she took one look at the now above shoulder length of her hair and screamed "Mommy I LOVE IT, please let me keep it like this."

The other day while sitting at the table doing her homework she told me again how much she likes her new hair, and asked me "have you gotten over it?" I realized right then her long hair was me, not her. Much like the stereotype of the father who pushes his son to be the athlete he wasn't, I was doing it to my daughter. My mother kept my hair very short when I was young and all I wanted was long hair. I learned a major lesson here - I was totally deaf to her repeated requests to cut her hair, all I heard were her comments about wanting Rapunzel hair.

so now that I have given you a much longer answer than you could have possibly expected (or want), how are you?

CALLING ALL CROQUETTES!!

Here's the best idea I've ever seen of Free Republic, but it should be every day. Not suitable for youngsters.

Hey, I took my daughter in to the salon once for a perm - why, i have no idea because she has naturally curly hair - she looked like a poodle!

I could hardly comb through her hair........ we only have a few pictures of it, and as always she was smiling, but lately she has begun to question my sanity saying, "Why in the world would you have done that to me KNOWING I already had naturally curly hair?"

I eventually had to cut it all off to get back to something that didn't look like one of the Jackson 5..........

I hear you about the hair; broke my heart the day I realized the daughter was never going to let me french braid her hair again. She had another accident in CA today, can't drive it now. I am having a bad day.

Other then that I have been busy with the squad and enjoying my down time without turning on a computer. They are sending a reporter to do a story on fams in ems today. I think I will wander on down, see if I get my pic in the paper or something.

;)

With the gaining momentum of the knowledge that Hillary's fraudulent campaign financing was undisclosed for the past five years, she is opening the opportunity to get to the bottom of the thaumaturge surrounding her cattle future investment.

Please.

Arghie.

I thought you had more sense than that.

Do NOT tell Whyisa where (nor how often) to put batteries in her fruits...... Or in her vegetables. (Fruits and vegetables are self-powered - and (usually) do not need batteries. (Unless one is powering small hand-held appliances FROM the juice WITHIN a lemon or potatoe.))

(Or, unless one is being inpowered BY a fruit or vegetables ... Butt I dyegrass , ass the homeowner spraying his lawn with green fertilizer mentioned causally in passing.)

It is, however, OK (and perhaps required at times) to remind her where to put her vegetables and fruits...
