Hemnes is a port city in the middle third of Norway, or about as high as the upper third of Alaska, on the globe; about 20 miles south of the Arctic Circle.
I am not sure the population of Hemnes proper, but the commune, township, county, whatever, has circa 4,500 people, or a little less than 5 people per square mile.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the kid is fairly representational of the Suomi (Lapplanders), right?
This looks like a perfect set-up for an electric train.
I think we need international solidarity on firearms rights.
I just read that the Norwegian government subsidises ammo for shooters under the age of 20. Weird.. :-)
Cheers.
Sweden and Finland might "surrender." Best to keep the people ready to fight. I'm sure the German occupation is fresh in their minds.
Thanx. Another little known fact (to me) unearthed.
,,, I didn't know anything about their gun laws. I also didn't know they were so big on furniture, but it makes sense, I guess. Long winters where they're stuck inside with plenty of time to kill, an abundance of trees to mill and their woodworking abilities go back centuries in terms of being mariners. That all stacks up. They haven't missed a trick in turning the income from oil reseves into investment funds for superannuation. That makes their very high living standards affordable too.
Great reply, thanks!
It's a relic from the cold war, people were encouraged to keep weapons and ammunition at home, and to practice with them, in order to go guerillia on the russians if they ever invaded.
What is the difference between a reservist and a part-timer? I'd guess that the part-timer would be akin to our National Guardsmen while the reservist would be like our Individual Ready Reserve.
