Welcome.
Some of the in thread regulars also took him to task.

If global warming were an actual fact, it wouldn't be chilly over much of the country at this point of the year.
Bascially, they look at retreating glaciers and wring their hands over it.
Nevermind that those glaciers have been retreating since the end of the last ice age.
Heck, they even advanced some because there was a mini ice age that froze the Vikings out of North America.

Heck, they even advanced some because there was a mini ice age that froze the Vikings out of North America.

And let's not forget the Carter Administration when, coupled with energy mismanagement, the United States experienced one of its coldest and, for the northeast, snowiest winters on record. The Kingston area of the Hudson Valley had places that were recording triple-digit season snowfalls, when the normal is 55"/yr. Snow as early as October and as late as May.

Fast forward. 2003. A total of 58.1" of snow falls at Dulles International Airport, including 40.5" in February. Both are records.

Put simply, the snow "engine" in the northeast requires a warm ocean and a cold continent. The greater the temperature difference between the two, the more snow falls (on average--situational variances can, of course, occur). If global warming is in play, both the continent and the ocean would, of course, warm. Water has a higher coefficient of heat absorbtion (takes more energy to heat a given unit of water) than soil, so it heats slower. The difference between the two--land and water--diminish, so the "engine" is snuffed out (sort of as like blowing out a candle). BTW - This explains why the worst nor'easters occur in a "knuckle" of air in front of and along intense ("cold") high pressure system advancing SE toward AL/GA.

On the other hand, if global temperatures are falling (and there's some satellite data to substantiate this), then the opposite is true. Water will hold heat longer than the continents, and the difference in temperatures in winter will be exacerbated. Worse storms will occur.

Now, in case our troll comes back, if the thermohaline issue comes to pass, water temperatures along the Atlantic coast of the United States would actually climb (yep, not what they're telling you, but it is what is for the reasons I explained earlier). The snow would rage in the United States (and over Greenland for that matter), returning the ice and restoring the balance. Isn't it amazing how nature seems to restore the balance? You'd think the eko-wackos would take time to analyze things.
