As an engineer, I am clearly plugged into pop culture more than most of you losers, so I feel compelled to voice my opinion on this thread

It strikes that Scott is simply the endomorphic clone of Napoleon Dynamite's brother.

If you need anymore advice on what is hip, I'll be here.

Thank you very much......

He's very scary. Everytime the judges say something bad to him, he throws them a death look. I'd be scared.

I've watched this show from the beginning. I'm not a fan of reality tv, but I do enjoy Idol because I love music. I graduated high school in 73, and I would love to see a rocker win. Bo deserves to win, IMHO. His vocals have improved every week, and he showed he has a softer side when he sang a slow song with guitar earlier in the season. He was great. Scott has no range (high range is very weak). Anthony's vocals are okay, but I don't enjoy watching him perform...and ability to perform and connect are a part of what makes someone successful. Carrie is great of course. Vonzell is great too. Ironically, Vonzell is much better than Fantasia (last year's Idol)...however, I would love to see a good ole boy rocker win, and for me, that is Bo.

Ditto on Carrie and Bo.

Haven't watched religiously (heavy work load; no time, etc.), but caught Carrie doing Heart. Hubba hubba.

And as a guy who leans more towards rock than pop, I gotta go with Bo. Wife agrees on both, too, and she's a vocalist from way back.

But who knows. Clarkson seems to be doing OK (I actually have her second CD from i-Tunes; definitely like her voice), but the second and third season winners don't seem to be having quite her power.

I see. So if we don't 'dig' your 'pop culture' than we are losers!

My my, how 'tolerant' of you to even let us live our own 'pathetic' lives.

You engineers have been on the cutting edge of the retro chic movement since the fifties. When everybody else started embracing the latest soon-to-be-outmoded "fashion", you guys hung tough.

Yeah, but the second season runner-up seems to be doing decently well. {Grin}

I think the need to go the route of Nashville Star. They only let you vote once from your phone. You need multiple phone numbers to vote more than once. Also there is on-line voting. I was told that was one vote per email address.

Unfortunately, people have found a way around the restrictions. If you go to the Nashville Star site on Yahoo, you'll see posters (mostly young idiots) bragging about how many times they voted for this or that person.

I loved the first season of Nashville Star, which had very limited audience voting and truly talented contestants. The third season, which just ended, must have been taken over by American Idol producers. Most of the contestants looked alike and were in the same age group -- bland, bland, bland -- and audience voting determined everything. The panel of "judges" did no judging at all.

I think Sony saw the writing on the wall with the second season of Nashville Star. They dropped out this year and some small Nashville record label will release the CD by this year's winner.

Anyway, the very thing which producers of these shows thinks attracts viewers -- audience participation -- turns me off. I don't want to sit through an entire season only to see some hack win.

The interesting thing about pop culture is that if you are "plugged in" and can "give advice on what is hip", you are yesterday's news. The target is always moving because that is what drives sales.

White, but to be extra-hip you put it in your pocket upside down. I helps feed the "gangsta" engineer image that chicks just can't get enough of.

It says "I don't care if my pen leaks....let it bleed all over my shirt". Yes, it's the danger that attracts.

Over on the official AI thread, Scott's nickname is Slingblade. Just in case you didn't know.
