FREEPER FAMILY TABLE--Two-Week Notice
me | April 29, 2005 | grellis

Posted on 04/29/2005 6:38:04 AM PDT by grellis

Dual topic thread today, folks:

What are your plans for summer vacation?

Do you have any special trips on the calendar? Can you suggest some family fun for the rest of us, something which your clan enjoys?

and...

Who would you like to take over the reins of this thread?

FFT began on May 14 of last year, here.

As many of you may recall, it started out as a thread just for moms but quickly evolved to include the entire family. "Setting the table" has been great fun for me, but after a year I feel it is time for me to step aside and do something else. The dishes, maybe. I'll be posting my last thread on May 13 (how lucky!!! Friday the 13th!). If there is someone in particular you would like to see take over, I don't know...how do we do this? Should we set up a nomination committee?! If you are interested n taking over the thread, don't be shy about tossing your name out there.

The coffee is on, FReepers! Pull up a chair.

My summer vacation plans...taking it easy on Friday mornings! JK, I really do love this thread. I hope everyone has enjoyed it as much as I have.

I am going to be enrolling our two older boys in swimming lessons this summer. Playing around in the ocean made me realize just how important it is for kids to know how to swim, especially in Michigan (Mitten factoid: You are never farther than 6 miles from a body of water in the state of Michigan). Other than that, we're going to do a whole lot of reeelaaaxing. I am literally going to watch the grass grow...if only I can get the lawn to play along.

You know, I've got piles of laundry over here. They're not going to get up and clean themselves!

I'll second Gabz!

Wow, we have been at this for a year? I remember joining FR around this time last year when I stopped working. Wow.

We are going to be doing a lot of traveling, but all for WEDDINGS. I can't wait to take Evie to DC when she is older!

We just got a Membership to Greenfield Village.

If we bought a day's tickets they would have been...
$64.00 for the adults
$40.00 for the kids
plus $5.00 for the parking.

We paid $119.00 for the membership, it's tax deductable and we can go back any time we want.
I had not been there since the 80's and now I realize that there is no way to do the Village and the Museum in one day. Two would really be pushing it. With the IMAX and the Rouge Factory tour (both discounted with membership) even two days is pushing it.

We will be spending tons of time there! We did the Science Center membership last year and did the Science Centers in Cleveland, Detroit, Orlando, Cranbrook and Traverse City.
That was money well spent.

A summer "must" for the family has become a trip to the Mammoth Lakes area so that we can all watch the fireworks display by Lake Crowley. It's in a valley, and the show is spectacular, with the backdrop of patriotic music. Really terrific. Then we hike, and/or boat, and just generally have a great time together. Barbecue.

I myself must take as many trips as possible to the Mammoth/Bishop area, as it's my fave area of the earth so far, has been for nigh onto 45 years.

Will probably take a hike with my 18yob and 9yob.

Wife and I have an overdue anniversary weekend... delayed due to her surgery, so it's not my fault. (c;

That's all I know for sure for the summer, planwise.

Jax took swimming lessons last year, and wants to take the next level this year........she also wants to do the 2 week soccer camp again and the week long Bible Camp.

We didn't do Pony Penning last year ebcause of the weather, but plan to do it this year. And of course there is always fishing. Weather permitting our first fishing excursion of the year will be next Saturday.......it's my mother's day present every year........to sit on the beach all day with a fishing pole, a book, and a cooler of beer!!! No phones, no computer, no laundry - NOTHING!!!!

I hope your wife is recovering well! FReeper AshfieldK and I just hit "14 stinking years" (grinning) on the 27th. I had a committee meeting I couldn't get out of so we'll do something nice this weekend.

Firework displays over water are the best! It's really the only way you can see them in the Great Lake state. We'll be doing a lot of hiking this summer as well, I hope. Sam is much more agile now and doesn't tire so easily (a blessing? a curse?) so we won't have to cart a stroller along.

I nominate you for the thread, btw. I think we should have a mom and a dad and alternate postings, either by week or month.

I've that's love...............

I am utterly clueless when it comes to thinking up topics for soemthing like this - most of you all have more than one child and so demands on you are far different than me..and I don't have any boy children - so have absolutely no clue there..........

How long is the Pony Penning? Is it just a weekend or is it stretched into a weeklong festival? I read every word that Marguerite Henry wrote when I was growing up. I've always wanted to see the Penning!

Well, thanks, that's nice, and I thought about it... but my posts on this thread usually don't get any responses besides yours, or rarely one or two others. I don't seem to have the gang's "pulse."
