RIYAQ, Lebanon The last of Syria's troops left Lebanon on Tuesday, ending a 29-year domination of this country's political and economic life with a farewell ceremony just a few kilometers from the border.
But as the last soldiers crossed into Syria, Lebanese politicians and analysts began facing challenges left by Syria's rule, including failed trust in the central government, fractious politics and a hobbled democracy that may take years to mend.
Officials and analysts also expressed fears that Syria, through proxies, will continue to exercise a degree of control and cause political divisions.
"Only now are we going to discover the damage the Syrians left behind," she said. "We basically missed 30 years of modernity and now we have to catch up."
With this history in YOUR country which I'm sure you are familiar with I absolutely CANNOT understand why you call those on these boards who want the illegal law breaking aliens to be stopped names.
Names like "racist" "your ilk" "border weenies" and DU'ers and even that they HATE President Bush which is not true.
