Friday, April 22, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

SINISTER

Adj
Pronunciation: Sin/i/ster.

adjective: (heraldry) on or starting from the wearer's left
Example: "Bar sinister"
adjective: stemming from evil characteristics or forces; wicked or dishonorable
Example: "The scheme of some sinister intelligence bent on punishing him-Thomas Hardy"
adjective: threatening or foreshadowing evil or tragic developments
Example: "Sinister storm clouds"

I can hear the Jets fans b!tching, they took a kicker in the second round. A very good kicker, but a kicker none the less.

I think it is the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band-I hear it ever so often on the C&W stations.

I'm going to early mass in Kerrville this morning, then to a new junque shop I heard about on the way home-I just finished feeding the refugees and carrying them around in a beach towel tied into a sling while I fixed breakfast-they have already trained themselves to the litter box and they begin purring immediately the minute we touch them and climb into our arms-they are going to be wonderful pets for a loving home. We really want to keep one, but Husky girl's eyes have a glitter when she looks at them that I do not trust-that is the way she looks at squirrels before she chases them. I'm off to make sure hubby is getting ready to go...

have fun! we are going to Mass at our old parish, because we are invited to a first communion there. it should be interesting to see what that bunch of libs has to say about the new Pope, if they even see fit to mention it.

St Ronnie has a teacher-get-together at a AA (Braves) ballgame over in Rome, so we'll be bundling up the granded kid for a ball game: And ole CG sent "us" his 35 degree weather last night!

Darn it! That's too cold fer this time of year!

(Wished he would have kept it fer another couple hours ..... Nice sunshine though...)

Mark Steyn, hilarious as always....

I'll bet Pope Benedict XVI is glad that his conclave doesn't include either Cardinal Biden or Cardinal Voinovich, or his church would be pontiff-less indefinitely while they ''investigated'' last-minute rumors that he'd been off-hand to some guy in seminary 55 years ago. I had no strong views about the new pope one way or another, but I'd have voted for him just for the pleasure of seeing him drive the U.S. media bananas. Apparently, the New York Times was stunned that their short list of Cardinal Gloria Steinem, Cardinal Rupert Everett and Cardinal Rosie O'Donnell were defeated at the last moment by some guy who came out of left field and isn't even gay or female but instead belongs to the discredited ''Catholic'' faction of the Catholic Church

Were the liberals at your old church talking about the new Pope?

well the tenor of the sermon, tied into the first reading (about how there were disagreements even back in the day of the very first generation of Christians), seemed to be.... calm down, the new Pope is probably not going to be as bad as you think... he didn't say anything like that, but that was the upshot of it. Of course the priest still skipped the word MEN in ..."for us men and our salvation he came down from heaven.." that ALWAYS sets xshub off when they do that. i know the students in our class here think i am a loon about tradition etc at Mass, but compared to my husband... i am a flaming MODERATE!

Nice picture!

o-I understand completely why that would cause one to grit their teeth-omissions in the reading of literal texts and the watering down of scripture and prayers for the PC crowd was the reason hubby and I stopped going to the parish church I had been going to since I was married to my ex. About 5 years ago, the priest was transferred to a brand new church, and a new one took over. The new priest was what I suppose would be called "progressive" by some, but to us he was just a people pleaser for the cafeteria catholics in the congregation-he would not speak out against abortion or homosexuality, but constantly preached about "equality" and how God commanded that we should hate the sin but love the sinner. After just two months, we started going to the church in an incorporated township 8 miles away, and went there until we moved up here to live.
