The Hobbit Hole XXI - ...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/21/2005 6:44:57 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh gosh, I really screwed up.

I've been promising Matthew for oh, 2 years? that I would take him to the midnight premiere of Sith. I forgot it was tonight and didn't get the tickets. It's sold out.

We're both pretty upset.

I promised we'd go first thing in the morning...the first showing is at 10am.

And Steve is on his way home so I'm gonna get him to drive us down there (it's just two miles) and let us check out the funky characters in front of the cinema...

Crap. I really hate promising someone something then blowing it.

In honor of today's discussion...

THE LORD KNOWS I'M DRINKING
Recorded by Cal Smith
Words and music by Bill Anderson

Hello Mrs. Johnson, you self-righteous woman
Sunday School teacher, what brings you out slummin'
Do you reckon the preacher would approve where you are
Standin' here vis'tin' with a back-slidin' Christian,
In a neighborhood bar.

Well, yes, that's my bottle and yes, that's my glass
And I see you're eye-ballin', this pretty young lass
It ain't none of your bus'ness, but yes, she's with me
And we don't need no sermon, you self-righteous woman,
Just let us be.

CHORUS
The Lord knows I'm drinkin'; (the Lord knows I'm drinkin')
And runnin' around; (and runnin' around)
And He don't need your loud mouth informin' the town
The Lord knows I'm sinnin'; (the Lord knows I'm sinnin')
And sinnin' ain't right; (and sinnin' ain't right)
But me and the Good Lord's gonna have us a good talk
Later tonight.

Goodbye, Mrs. Johnson, you self-righteous biddy
I don't need your preachin', and I don't need your pity
So, go back to whatever, you hypocrites do
And when I talk to Heaven, be nice and I'll put in a good word for you.

Don't sweat it, sis.

Those tickets have probably been sold out for days.

You'll all have a better time tomorrow.

You mean it wasn't? Heh... OK... I wuz referring more to the mere alcohol than the form it took.

But from what I understand, the "wine" back in those days was fermented a little harder than nowadays and often ended up being from 40 to 80 proof... It weren't wine... it wuz grape whiskey. :-)

I know...and I'm personally relieved. But I promised him. That's what I hate...I simply didn't think days ago to go get the tickets like I did for LOTR.

He's disappointed but handling it pretty well, considering how much he was looking forward to it. I take full responsibility...I made a promise and broke it. I hate it when I do stuff like that.

Well, I'm logging off. Steve'll be home soon.

I just can't believe after all this time I didn't follow through.

Evenin'... nope, no luck per se. Got the loan approval, but they wanted a bigger downpayment than we can swing this week. But, now we know we can get one, and in two weeks we'll have the downpayment they want. Meanwhile, we're still renting.
