Yes. That's been my experience as well. It's unfortunate, but the FR crowd that I joined six years ago is a different group of people from the ones today. Some of the old liners are still around and I thank them for the memories as well as welcoming new participation, but the general clientel of the site has changed since the heydeys I remember.
Yeah, a whole bunch of people signed up in the fall of 2004, after Rathergate got us publicity. Many of these are disruptive.
Pretty SOON, there'll be so FEW of us, that we'll be decreed to be Schiavo'ed as useless posters who have no feeding frenzy value.
Since you've decided to go, how 'bout if you start another thread titled 'FR then vs. FR now, how far have we strayed'? Of COURSE, it might get zotted or have the VK's on yer butt, but if you're going anyway......
Hate to see you go, but I wanted to mention that six years ago FR didn't have the public visibility it has now. There are definitely people who see FR as a threat, and since anybody can join...well I think you can see where that would lead. Some trolls are obvious, some not. What better way to disrupt a group that prides itself on intelligent discussion than to join up and act like an intolerable asshole?
I've been around for about 4-5 years (before 9-11) and I must say... I won't let the newbies touch me.... I just don't care enough about what they say.
Correct
