I didn't know about the Chicks' friendship with our President. That's too bad.
I don't mind that much of the entertainment industry is anti-Bush. I suppose if I avoided every artist who disliked the President and/or opposed the war, I wouldn't see a movie, go to a concert or buy a CD. Except for a few shrill whiners like Alex Baldwin, Barbara Streisand, et al., most have kept their political views private...or at the very least they don't advertise them every chance they get.
Thing is that unlike most artists, the Chicks trashed their President in public, in an already hostile, anti-American country like our supposed "friend," France. Traitorous conduct? Maybe. Poor judgment, bad taste, ignorance and sheer stupidity? Most definitely Yes.
I don't own any of the Chicks' CDs and have never paid to see them in concert, so they lost me already. I'll just spend my entertainment dollars elsewhere. Probably doesn't upset them, but it makes me feel good.
They havn't made it on any of my money either. I always considered them the Spice Girls of country. They rely heavily on the talents of others, song writing, producing, etc. I always thought they were gimmicky and never bought anything of theirs.
They wanted to build a career around controversy adn set out to do so. They once posed nude for a PETA ad. Apparantly they had to be told that many of their fans were most likely farmers and would take issue with them promoting PETA. The chicks paid PETA 20 Grand to NOT publish the pics. The hypocracy of it all, is that they wore LEATHER on their last tour while trying to convince everyone they were now "rock n roll".
I also have a problem with them flashing PRO CHOICE on jumbo screens at concerts. An 8 year old girl (and yes many of their fans are very young) should not have to be exposed to such issues or what the PRO CHOICE movement is when all they wanted was to hear some music.
So here I am. I will not only not afford them a stage but I will continue to encourage others to join me. :)

You're right about them apparently not having somet talents of their own. "Landslide" was their recent big hit of a year or two or so ago. Stevie Nicks (who I believe also wrote the song) did a much better job with it.
I guess they harmonize ok, but I'm not that into them, so boycotting them is rather easy for me. :)
