Funny the only chow I've know was into eating children, my son included. He gave one child over 70 + stitches and a night in the hospital.

He gave my son at least 10 scars starting with his thighs and heading up to his throat. This dog knew these boys and was not an abused or mistreated dog. He was returned to the owner after the first child was attacked because the owners claimed the boy must have provoked him.

He then just a few months later attacked my 4 yr old who wasn't even near the dog. My child was playing ball and the dog jumped and attacked for no reason. Needless to say I don't trust chows or the other known offenders. I have a special hatred for the chows.

I just posted the same thing. Some of them seem to have an extreem dislike for children.

Those are terrible things that happened. My Chows have always been very socialized since they were pups...with all ages of people, and with other dogs. I have three daughters, ages 21, 16, and 12. Needless to say, we have always had lots of kids in and out of our house. With the Chow I have now, I give each new person directions on how to let her approach them, when she is comfortable doing so. After about 15 minutes she is all calm and will give them a good sniffing and then wash their hands. I now have a 5 month old grandson, and when he visits, she will give him a quick sniff and lay down next to him...then she watches everyone. It's like she is his momma. Chows are a very special breed of dog and need lots of love and socialization at an early age. They can easily become mean if they are mistreated in any way, or allowed to run loose. I have seen mean Chows and stay clear of them. Out of the four Chows I have owned, I have never had one single problem...and would trust them with my life.
