I did Thailand 5 times before seeing Chiang Mai, very nice.

I gotta do N. Vietnam, I love that country, its the next tiger of Asia. Diving is seasonal and so-so, up at Nha Trang.

If you like diving, you may like the Maldives or the Sinai peninsula if you haven't been. We only snorkeled at both places, but it was excellent. Both beautiful.

Yes, I think we will do Chiang Mai for sure before too long...no worries about tsunamis there.
