Need help locating installer CD
my head | 04/03/05 | Neil E. Wright

Hiya guys,

normally I don't post this type of thread, but I just finished upgrading my neighbor's network to a wireless network and they gave me their old Cable/DSL router (all I have on my inhouse network is a hub, which is OK, but I have more 'puters to add to my network and need a router and the hub to connect them all)

If anyone out there has the installer CD for the Linksys Network EVERYWHERE Cable/DSL 4-Port Router, Model NR041 and who can burn an IMAGE file so I can make a CD here, please FReepmail me ASAP.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat; Computers/Internet; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: cabledslrouter; linksys; networkeverywhere
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the Linksys website?

You don't need an installer CD for such things. They just throw things like that into the box to make people feel better.

Yep .... it is not even listed on the Products page ... it's an obsolete router, apparently .... I did manage to find a firmware update for it on the web ... but before I can update the firmware, I must first get it working on my network. Hence this request for a) either the installer CD ... or b) someone who has one who can send me in the proper direction to getting it on the network and configured so I can use it. :)

the website for it says "Setup Wizard Disk fails. If the setup wizard disk fails, you can ignore the error message and configure the router without using the software"
Does this help?

I recently re-installed WIN-XP pro with my Linksys BEFSR41 cable DSL router.

Win XP recognized it and ran the network setup. All works fine.

Try their support page with automated web set-up if you don't have WIN XP

cant you just open a browser and go to the 192.168.0.1 (router config) address? I am having a brain fart here; dont know why an install cd is necessary unless you have win98? If thats why and you have a winxp cd, can you browse for the inf files in the winxp cd files when doing the add remove hardware wizard?

Try using what RedBloodedAmerican suggested but use this browser address from my manual instead
http://192.168.1.1

My manual also says that with Win 2000 you should be able to have OS recognize router and then configure from OS.

Hope this helps.

Glad to help.

They have a sort of hidden downloads page
http://www.linksys.com/download/
that might get to your model manual or to one similar suffix model, (same series)

Good on you. I have the disk for that one, but you really don't need it - the only thing it does is open a connection to the router and hold your hand and walk you through the settings. Might as well just point your browser there and do it the short way - the end result is exactly the same.

Just saw this thread. Glad somebody helped you. This is really weird. I built a computer for a friend and she gave me her old router yesterday.

A Linksys Network Everywhere Model NR041. 4 ports.

Parallel universe stuff, I guess...

when you connect to the router and you dont know its IP, open command prompt start>run>cmd and hit enter (or type command and hit enter)
then type ipconfig and hit enter; the routers IP is the one listed as "default gateway"
