That album with Crazy Horse was one of the absolute best of the 70s. I even liked how he did that twangy C&W song, y'know:

"I went into town to see you yesterday, but you were not home..."

And when he slowed down Don Gibson's "Oh, Lonesome Me" on After The Gold Rush I was blown away.

Trivia....According to the album, "After The Gold Rush" was to have been "from the upcoming motion picture". Who was the star of that movie that never came out?

Congratulations on your son rising up out of hip-hop. The seminal musicians you list served me well when learning guitar as a teen.

Neil Young's "After the Goldrush" is right there with any album that can be put on a list from the '70s. His politics are convenient for a person from his period and considerable financial position. I will say he calls out hypocrites from the left, as well as the right.

I remember the blurb about the movie that never was, but I cannot remember who the actor was. That album was great...and yes, he did an excellent job on "Oh Lonesome Me." I liked Zuma also..."Cortez the Killer" etc. He is a talented guy...

Dean Stockwell, former child star who later gained fame on the TV show "Quantum Leap".

I've written only one fan letter in my whole life, and that was to Neil after the release of ATGR.

Everybody keeps saying he is liberal. He's more complex than that.

He was a very big supporter of Ronald Reagan (much to the chagrin of his mates)

He gets "poisoned" when he hangs with CSN (true gag reflexive liberals), but gets "better" when he leaves their sorry "Thrasher asses" in the lurch (over and over again)

He opened a live rust concert at the Nassau Coliseum with it, if I remember right.

I had been online at Ticketron to get Grateful Dead tix, when they sold out. Everyone on line left. Me and my girlfriend went up to the counter and asked who else was playing locally. The gal said Neil young tix just went on sale. We got 3rd row center stage at the coliseum. hehehe

I always liked Joe Walsh. He was smarter than he sounded :) He even had an armature radio license, an Extra, which is a bit hard to get. In at least one song I know of you could even here a bit of morse code mixed into it.

I heard he supported Reagan too. He can't be all bad. I saw him with CSn in 2000 or 2001 they were very good.

Rockin' In The Free World"

There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.

Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Not only has he recorded an entire album about the conflict, but in one of the songs he spells out who he thinks is to blame for the ongoing chaos and violence and what the consequences for that person should be. That track is called "Impeach the President".

Sounds like the damage was a little more severe than was previously thought.

In other news: Strange1 has dedictaed an entire bowel movement based on old 70's wash outed folk rock wankers
