I was getting deer food at the feed store the other day on the way home and I saw a little SUV with BC plates. Since the gentleman driving it was the only other customer in the store, I asked him where he was staying, and how long-he named a nearby high-end "snow bird" park and said they were here till mid April. I asked him about all the RVs from Canada I was seeing in the parks, and he said that he usually wintered in Florida but that it was still a mess from the hurricanes and there was a lot of price gouging going on in the parks and other accommodations as a result. He said they liked it so much better here (it is cheaper) that they have already booked with the park for one of the condos being built there for next winter-seems our theories were right...

I've got to finish cutting the side yard so I can get a load of dirt for the garden area and the front drain field next week-I may as well do it now so maybe I can go do something fun this afternoon-hubby is engrossed in experimenting with the scroll saw anyway...

We went out to the barn so I could get all my potting supplies, since we are apparently going to be rained in this afternoon.

What a mistake going out there.............the water damage just keeps getting worse....it seems everytime we get one problem fixed and everything shifted around - another problem spot appears. What a royal mess..........but it hasn't been dry enough for us to haul stuff out to try and dry it out, and with all the mold problems we had in the house in the past, the last thing on earth I wasnt to do is bring more of it in here.

Oh, jeez-my sympathies to you-my neighbor up the road has been contending with a leak in the roof of his barn right over the loft (where he has a bunch of stuff stored) and not enough dry days to repair it. He is hoping to eventually outfit part of that loft as an office so that he can work at home a couple of days a week. Hopefully, the rain will stop for awhils to you can get your repairs finished.

Thanks..............and my sympathies to your neighbor, I know exactly what he is going through. Not enough dry days and then all the wind that drives the rain to find everylittle tiny nook or cranny. My poor husband was about sick when we started looking for a particular box of stuff Jax asked us to look for.........he kept discovering more damage, in places where there was none before.

I finally had to say ENOUGH and get him out of there - he's blaming himself and there is just nothing he can do about it right now.

CG & LulaBelle have abandoned me. They are spending the day at the lake with CG's 3 bros. I've worked out, and am headed to the shower. Will be going to brazil after that.

Not the Florida State Parks. One of the few places where one can camp on an unspoiled tropical island (Keys) for less than $30.00 per night.

Or beachfront in the panhandle for less than $20.00

State parks never price gouge, and are always fairly priced-I've stayed at many of them here in Texas and in New Mexico, especially when we took my daughter camping when she was a little one and thourougly enjoyed every visit. The "parks" in this community and the ones nearby are privately owned RV parks that cater to the snowbirds who winter in the Texas hill county-many of them have golf courses, condos, cabins, spas, clubrooms, private restaurants-all the bells and whistles-and some are pretty expensive. There is plenty of water here in the form of rivers and lakes, but the nearest salt water and sand is at the Gulf of Mexico over 200 miles away. I assumed the man from BC was talking about their counterparts in Florida-are there any of these in Florida?

They are doing a Litany of Saints again, I wish it was in Latin because then I could follow it...somewhat.

The panhandle is where my heart lives. And my aunt only charges a cleaning fee when I stay there. :)

I know that there are private parks here but I've never stayed at one. The state park system is affordable, well maintained, ubiquitous and--dry.

When we were kids my folks would take us to some of the private parks and there was always some nimrod getting loaded, fighting with the wife...screaming at the kids.

State parks are quieter.

I have only had one bad experience at a state park. The one near the caves at Marianna is built on a flood plain. Every year they have to bring in truck loads of dirt which turns to MUD to my kids delight. It was built by the CCC. Go figure.

One of my favorite place son earth is Grayton Beach which rents these beachside cabins (with kitchenette, no tv sleeps 6)for $110.00 per night
