Terri arrested 15 years ago. Her heart stopped beating and supplying oxygen to her brain. If not for the intervention of paramedics and the hospital staff, she would have died that morning. Instead, they pulled out all the stops and brought her body back with the assistance of a respirator to breathe for her. They took too long and her brain was deprived of oxygen for an extended period. No long enough to stop her organs from failing, but long enough to destroy her cerebral cortex and leave behind a body pumping blood.
Terri wasn't allowed to die in peace. Instead her body was forced to remain plugging away...like something out of Frankenstein. Just because we are able to bring people back from the dead doesn't mean it's a good thing and appropriate in most casees.
