Word For The Day, Thursday, March 31, 2005
03/31/05 | Slip 18

March 31, 2005, Thursday

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

SEMINAL

Adjective
Pronunciation: Semin/al
Etymology: I don’t know. I can’t read the danged thing.

1) Of, derived from, containing or consisting of seed or semen ( ~ vessel )
2) Having the characteristics of originative power, principle or source: containing or contributing seeds of later development: germinate

I actually heard this word on the news (of course FNN) the other night. It had nothing to do with fluid, you Croqs.

How did you know they were blue? How did you know they were manufactured by Pfizer? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL!

oh Lord slippy....

With this word, you should probably refrain from calling Slip18 "slippy". The connotations are just too rich.

My mom had 11 kids under the age of 23. Last two were twins. And mom and dad were married for 45 years. Dad died (rip), I think it was my mom's drive. LOL!

It was a seminal moment in their relationship. His heart fluttered wildly as he gazed into her sparkling green eyes, reflecting the whole world in their clarity. He knew he should speak, but the words died long before they reached his dry lips.

She smiled, enigmatically spurring his imagination as her lips shaped themselves into an oh-so-kissable pose, inviting yet forbidden below those limpid green pools of irridescence. Even her teeth, sparkling white and braces-straight, drew his interest as they flashed in the bright lights of the restaurant.

He dared not look further south, lest his imagination run wild, carrying his consciouness away from the here and now with secret dreams and desires. No, no - he knew he couldn't allow that to happen. He wouldn't be able to recover for far too long, he'd be trapped in his fantasy world and it would ruin this very real moment they were sharing.

The noises around him in the restaurant seemed to fade as he turned his attention away from her body, moving upwards to her fine, braided hair. Each strand glistened with its own fire, catching the light and throwing it straight through his eyes into his soul. He was hooked. He knew he'd never be able to get over her if this moment ended badly.

Her smile ebbed slowly, a look of puzzlement replacing it as the fleeting seconds trickled by. His gaze didn't seem to bother her so much as did his silence. He could see the tiniest spark of impatience come to life in her beautiful eyes - she was waiting for him to speak. Had she asked him a question? In his reverie, he hadn't noticed.

Shifting her slender frame delicately, her lips sprang into motion once more as she repeated the query that he, indeed, had missed entirely...

"Uh, Sir? Did you want fries with that?"

Yep-the old I-exist-only-for-him mentality. I counseled a group of co-dependent women for a psychologist two evenings a week several years ago-they drove me nuts-couldn't find a bathroom without someone telling them how to. Hubby said sometimes I looked like I was going to go and drown myself in the spa some evenings when I got home...

some of that article touches on the 'would you rather be wanted or needed?' question. And a lot of the article is just crazy off the deep end depressing

Exactly-most of us functioned perfectly well before we married our husbands and could do so again, love nowithstanding. There are men in this world who want a woman who is totally incapable of independent thought-I can't imagine myself married to one, though...

Yep, nine of them-they go to the same church we do most of the time, and hubby was amazed the first time he saw what he calls "the XXXX tribe" at mass. The oldest, a daughter who is a teacher is getting married this June and I wonder if she is committed to having a big family, too. The last two of this couple's kids were "change of life babies"-she thought her fertility was so low it couldn't happen-the husband finally got a vasectomy after the last one, another daughter was born. Their house is huge-I thought it was a small waterfront resort the first time I drove by it...
