RED WING, Minn. (AP) - A 2-year-old was injured early Tuesday when an agitated man tossed the child down a flight of stairs at police officers who were responding to a 911 call.
The child was in critical condition Tuesday.
Timothy Lee Staten, 25, was arrested and is being held in the Goodhue County Jail. He is facing charges of Assault and resisting arrest.
Police said they were called to the man's address about 12:20 a.m. by a 911 caller who said a man was at the residence causing problems.
When police arrived, a hysterical woman told them the man was inside the residence and had possibly assaulted the child. When police entered, they said they saw the man shaking the child.
Police ordered the man to release the child, but instead he threw the child down some stairs at them.
An officer brought the child to a waiting ambulance. The child was later flown to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Police said the man "extensively" resisted the four officers who subdued him.
Here we go...
We believe in accountability here, newbie. "The drugs made me do it" doesn't fly.
Not exactly a glowing endorsement. You realize that, don't you?
Aw Geeeeze.
Here to defend the bastard. How nice NOT.
Hey, are you the same person who came here a month ago defending the wretch who drowned her 2 year old baby?
I always imagined our resident piece-of-crap defender was female.
That's ok.Where he's headed, there'll be some nice fella's that will get to know him real good.
So, how is the baby?
Hey, whatever works.
B@stard!

According to the criminal complaint, Staten punched his pregnant wife and her 4-year-old daughter on March 29 while he allegedly was high on drugs. The complaint alleges he then shook and bit his 2-year-old daughter and threw her down a stairway at a Red Wing police officer who tried to intervene.
The child suffered a fractured skull and brain injuries and underwent emergency surgery.
I suppose he was having an adverse reaction to the drugs he was going to take in the past incident cited below.
