What do Pittsburgh's pro baseball, football and hockey teams have in common that no other city's teams do?
They make it easy for their fans to wear their team colors, that's what. The Pirates, Steelers and Penguins all sport the same combination - gold, black and white. No other city in the United States has this degree of unity in team colors.
Even though they share colors, the teams seem to do what they can to make their uniforms distinctive. In the 1970s and 80s, the Pirates revived the old 19th century style pillbox caps. The Steelers are unique in that their logo only appears on one side of the players' helmets (the right side, as they're worn). And in 2002, after a few years of a "modernized" design, the Penguins formally re-adopted their old-style skating penguin logo for both their home and away jerseys.
Sure, we love Mr. Met and the Rams' horn - but Pittsburgh is undoubtedly the home of pro sporting style.
Never heard of someone playing profession football, baseball, and hockey. I am guessing an old-timer.
We have had a lot of famous people come from here. Unfortunatly, the last one to create a lot of jobs here was Andrew Carnegie. That was a long time ago (quoting 13 year old daughter reading over my shoulder.)
There is indeed an answer, only a Pittsburgher would know it.
Vince Lachide, the organ player! (appologies if I spelled his name wrong.)
Ahhh, if only. If only.
If someone like him is coming, it'd better be soon. Allegheny County's ferkakte tax rates probably scare them off.
Actually, it's more than that. Black and Gold are the official City of Pittsburgh colors and that's why the teams use those colors. In fact, many of our bridges are painted black or gold.
Did the Pens do it for city unity? Nahhh! They got to sell alot of new shirts and other merchandise! Smart business men.
Boo! old joke! But a great organ player!
And every Dallas-area sports team has a star somewhere in their logo.
It needs to quit chasing businesses out of town! We used to be #4 in the country for corporate headquarters.
Ask anyone in any other NFL city and ask them what fans from the opposing team come to their city the most. I remember away games where the Steeler fans outnumbered the home team fans.

That is because there are no jobs in Western Pa so all of the Steeles fans are transplanted to other towns. Baltimore, Washington, and New York being popular choices.
Go Steelers! :-)
Sorry Smokey! I just couldn't help myself when I saw this thread, it was actually the first answer that popped into my head. I guess I'm dating myself now...
Sorry, dear. I am a LITTLE older than you. (lol) I am talking about when you could still get into other stadiums-when they were not sold out. I am talking early 1970's on. BEFORE Super Bowls. BEFORE they chased everyone out. Back when the trip to Baltimore was cheaper than the tickets to the game!
LOL! You sure are !!! ;-) Let's see.... do you remember why Iron City Beer INVENTED SNAP TOP CANS????????? (now THAT is an old joke)
Jimmy the Greek
GO STEELERS!!!
I have no idea. Help us out, oh enlightened one :)
