President Bush had the power too, the power to send Federal marshals.
Neither would use it. Were they afraid (which would be typically Republican) or were they just not really interested?

Janet Reno had no problem with the possibility of a catastrophically violent confrontation. (see Waco)
I think both Governor and President Bush do have a problem with that scenario, however.
