Error Leads to 'American Idol' Revote

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The 11 contestants left on Fox's reality hit "American Idol" are getting another shot at stardom.

Phone numbers that allowed viewers to pick their favorite contestant were incorrectly displayed during Tuesday's show, prompting a re-vote during the show scheduled to air Wednesday, the network said in a statement.

Phone lines will remain open for two hours following the episode, when another singer will be booted off this week by viewers. The contestant with the fewest votes goes home.

In the running are Bo Bice, Anthony Fedorov, Constantine Maroulis, Anwar Robinson, Scott Savol, Nikko Smith, Mikalah Gordon, Jessica Sierra, Vonzell Solomon, Nadia Turner and Carrie Underwood.

The series, which is in its fourth season, draws nearly 30 million viewers an episode.

Last night was a real treat. I don't watch consistently but was pleasantly surprised by how good the voices were.

Paula and Simon's schtick is getting old tho.

His low key, Jim Croce song might have been not 'over the top' enough. I loved it.

Hmm. I'm a Bo fan and a Jim Croce fan but I didn't like his performance last night at all.

I thought the two blond gals were awesome last night.

Both could easily make hit records.

Sounds like it. I'm not sure if someone like Mikalah, who did poorly last night, would have an opportunity to choose a different song. She will have an opportunity to improve on the one she did though.

Anyone named Mikalah should go home and STAY home until she can come up with a real name.

Hey, wait just a darn minute!
The daughter of one of my best friends is named Mikayla.
Don't blame the name
for that dingy "nanny" dame. =^)

Was this done on purpose to create another week's worth of ratings?

I'm gonna mock your best friend too . . . Mikayla is not a name. (Michaela might be, but not Mikayla.)

Mikayla is a stripper pseudonym.

They're replaying the whole show? But it's only scheduled for a half hour....guess that's changed then....
The two blond girls are both very talented...but so are the two long haired boys.....

The Partridge Family song was just hilarious.

Yes it was very brave of him wasn't it? He pulled it off though.....

According to the Fox website, the show tonight is an hour with "new live elements" and last night's performances. So I'm assuming we get to have some new Seacrest babbling and maybe new comments from the singers and/or judges and see replays of the songs from last night's show with the correct voting info.

I do not watch Idol; don't understand entertainment value. But it is entertaining watching Idol fans (the type that actually spend money to vote) being scammed.

So what is the phone charge for voting-- $1 x 20 million calls = $20m

Phone company guy to phone number posting guy, "Post the wrong numbers tonight and it’s worth $25,000 big ones"

Phone Company nets an additional $20m for the do over night.

Guess I've been watching too much 24.

"The Partridge Family song was just hilarious.

I was watching with a large group of people and no one liked it. Everyone felt it was too showy (like the proverbial karaoke night or amusement park show the judges always invoke) and was trying too hard. But at least he didn't get into the camera and do his "I think I'm God's gift to women" look that has annoyed me in the past, so that was an improvement! To each his own--there may even be people out there who genuinely like Mikalah!
